Had exactly the same issue yesterday...... 8 years of dust and grit in the latch mechanisms. and the manual release doesn't work too well when there in this state.

Is there a soft opener function - lol Or is that only on newer vehicles ? Ours (2006 TDV8) just seems to drop when opened. I fitted a kit to my 2007 a few years ago, although buy the bolts yourself, LR want about £10.00 for two bolts.
