I am fitting new rear pads and disks.
Should we no longer apply copper grease to the back of the pads?
Should I apply CeraTec to the back of the pads instead?
Or, Should the back be left dry?
If left dry, will they sequel?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, hopefully they will all concur and not conflict

Mating surfaces means where the pads slide in the caliper NOT between the pad & piston(s) .
The antisqueal layer on the back of the pads works by sticking to the piston, so that the pad can't vibrate (squeal) so easily because the of the extra weight & support the piston(s) provide Paul,

i think i would still put a bit of grease on the back of the pads to help reduce the probability of squealing .. ... - .- -.

Don't add grease to the back of the pads - it does nothing positive !
It means the anti-squeal material can't work to stick the pad backplate & piston together & is actually then only a negative because the material is compressible & is adding extra pedal travel at higher pedal forces.

Note the WM does not mention pistons.

The vehicle & brake manufacturers accept the small increase in pedal travel as an acceptable compromise if they can stop squealing. If you're going to grease, you may as well slice off the anti-squeal material. Paul,

It's worth adding that NO vehicle OR brake manufacturer uses grease between the pads & pistons to stop squeal.

I've just replaced all my brakes and the WM gives very specific instructions about applying grease to the areas on the back of the pads that are in contact with the pistons. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

I'm very surprised if the Land Rover manual suggests using grease between pads & pistons.
The electronic 2006 ~ 2010 Land Rover Workshop Manual I use makes no mention of grease being used at all to reassemble / replace pads.
I can also see no reference to grease in the 2002 ~ 2006 manual either - but that manual doesn't provide very much good info generally. Paul,

I'm busy looking for a hat to eat - lol.

In 30 years of working in the UKs only brake manufacturer, I've never seen a manufacturer specify greasing like that.
I can only think there's something odd about the way the 6 pot Brembo callipers work that means grease helps.

Question for anyone with the 6 pot callipers - is there any material on the back of the brembo pads or is it just metal ?

BTW : For anyone intrigued enough , the usual reason to get the piston & pads to stick together when under pressure is that the increased mass of the combination reduces the natural frequency of the sound when they vibrate, in an attempt to eliminate or change any squealing noises. Paul,
