United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover HSE TDV8 Barolo Black
Range rover sport tdv8 blown turbos.

Hi everyone,

New here, and I'm in a bit of a pickle.. Well major pickle.

2009 range rover sport TDV8.

Driving along minding my own business, sudden loss of power, loud whine, turbo failure. That's fine, 90 odd thousand miles it was going to happen at some point.

Took it to a specialist. Diagnoses Near side turbo spat it's dummy out.

2 weeks later I got it booked in at a garage with a good rep and good reviews. Quoted me a fair sum and I thought great, get back on the road.

Had the car for 5 weeks, replaced the nakerd turbo, put it all back together again.

Went to test drive it straight into limp mode and an endless list of engine management faults.

Everything was saturated in oil, so started to clean and stripping each and every sensor, cleaned out exhaust, new gaskets and ended up replacing 2 maf sensors.

Put it all back together again and away we go.
I've been told he used a tenners worth of diesel driving it around make sure everything is as it should.

I pick the car up the day after, drive it 10 miles and boom! Loss of power, clouds of blue/white smoke. Get it towed straight back to the garage.

Stripped it all apart again, diagnosis, blown the other turbo and blown the new turbo.

So it's been stripped down again.. Turbos are being sent away for diagnosis. And I've been told a potential engine rebuild is likely..

I'm feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place.

What could cause a turbo to fail so quickly..

I did notice on my short 10 mile drive, when I initially turned the car on a puff of white/blue smoke from the exhausts.

It didn't feel as powerful as it did before the turbo went the first time.

I've been reading up about potential blocked dpf? Can cause instant turbo failure..?

Any advice or knowledge would be highly appreciated.

Thanks
C

Sorry about your predicament. While the RRS forum may have more useful info, you could use the search facility on here, for example there is a thread headed something like "why TDV8 turbos fail" which might help. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Sorry to hear this mate.

Cause may possibly be oil starvation.

Check turbo oil outlet pipes for restrictions caused by oil sludge/carbonisation.

Oil transiting the turbo gets thermally stressed and can cause deposits restricting flow.

Let us know how you get on. 2007 3.6 TDV8

I agree it does sounds like something going on around the turbos. It sounds like intercooler was laden with oil. ______________________________
