EGR blanking on a 4.4 TDV8 2012 model year

I've searched a good deal on this topic, and most posts refer to the 3.6 TDV8 which is different from the 4.4 in this area.
I've been told by Celtic Tuning that they can map out the EGR from the car's software, but that the EGR valve would need to be physically removed, or blanked off, first.
Removal is dodgy since it might be noticed during an MOT.
So my two questions are these: is it possible to physically blank off the EGR on a 2010-12 4.4 TDV8? If so, does anyone know an approximate cost?

Good question Stan, I suppose I just dislike the idea of sooty gases being pumped back in to the engine. The remap companies say that the software side of things is free; i.e. it's part of any remap - which I'm toying with as a way of improving the low speed response of the car (I'm not interested in huge bhp or torque gains that might break the gearbox).
Also, just a bit curious since I've never seen a straight answer to my questions.

as you know the 4.4 tdv8 is a fairly complicated engine so messing with maps and egr might 'upset' the engines balance..

i find the acceleration quite adequate tbh.. ... - .- -.

Mine's ecu is stock. I tried blanking EGR by inserting a thin plate between the join in the pipework just before the pipe enters the throttle body, sealed with high temperature silicone sealant. Whilst the engine responded beautifully to light throttle openings, much more smoothly and positively than normally, as soon as the throttle was backed-off to hold the revs steady the engine would die presumably due to engine management closing the throttle butterfly trying to increase exhaust gas flow. It was impossible to keep constant revs, only accelerating smoothly or abruptly decelerating with apparent closed throttle.

I want to stop EGR because it has caused massive carbon build-up in the inlet tract.

Well, GraemeS's post sort of confirms your point, Stan. I'm wondering whether it's possible to deal with the only thing I dislike about how the 4.4 TDV8 drives - namely the lack of oomph from standstill. Once on the move, I find the acceleration more than adequate. And it's such a heavy old thing that you wouldn't want crazy performance anyway! But I would like better low speed response.

Removing the butterfly or somehow stop it from closing in addition to blocking the EGR tube may work, although without a butterfly the ecm can't block off air in the event of an engine runaway if the ecm has this functionality.

I spoke with our mappers ages ago and was told absolutely NOT to mess with the EGR on either the 3.0 or the 4.4 as it will cause DPF issues... So, please proceed with caution folks Thumbs Up

Some of us don't have DPFs.

Superchips won’t remap a 4.4TDV8. When asked why not the response was “performance could not be improved without compromising reliability on this engine”.

Just a thought, I was asked by a friend to investigate an egr delete on a 2014 Pajero and found a mod online which I was able to complete for next to nothing. It was just a resistor to trick the engine ecu that the intake was cold even when the car was up to temp. This had the effect of never allowing the electric valve egr to open. This is well beyond my level of understanding but it works on the Paj, maybe some clever member might look into the possibility of the same on the 4.4TDV8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK5z2jyP-vY 2007 TDV8 VSE

I would not want the engine to be run as though it was always cold. However I would happily have a remap that only set the minimum EGR temperature to an impossibly high temperature.
