HELP 2010 TDV8 won't start......

Hi,

I. At my wit's end here, owned the car for 6 weeks and cannot get to the bottom of this issue

1. I work away and car was left for 2 weeks, wife went to use it in the bad weather and it started but numerous faults appeared on the TFT
2. She turned off ignition, locked and unlocked and tried again. This time the car was unresponsive.
3. Called green flag recovery who checked it over and said it appears to be ignition issues as fault codes cleared and were ok
4. On advice from forums I purchased a new battery and got a mechanic friend to for it. He carried out the same starts as my wife and advise me he also though ignition as as started once then unresponsive.
5. Paid for diagnostic checks who also said nothing standing and may be ignition issues
6. Purchased ignition start/stop button and fitted it today on my return from work - STILL NOTHING...

TFT lights up and sat Nav lights up and will show radio / TV but has an amber flashing light. Smart key in car but absolutely no response at all when pressing the button, not even trying to start...

Any ideas of things to check would be grateful before I arrange for recovery tomorrow

HAs anyone checked the starter motor? There have been a couple of instances where they've needed replacing on the 2010-12 TDV8.

Check the battery voltage. Just to be sure the battery fitted is good. Also check the terminals are correct tight.

if not, +1 starter motor. When they go they won't crank, a known weak point on these engines.

.

. Cheers, Greg

No further forward, garage the car was in says he can't get diagnostics to read as no ignition, another says the KVM needs replaced (previous owner did have intermittent" smart key not found " message but always went away when locked / unlocked.

Waiting to be taken to the main stealers I'm afraid to see if they can't. Those the technical support.

Daft question, but have you tried putting the key down under the steering wheel like the manual says when the key can't be actively detected ?

It does sound to me like the key is not being detected if you get no display. Too many toys, not enough time

^ When the key isn't detected, a message appears on the dash saying something like, Smartkey Not Detected.

That is true, but I was trying to ensure if it is active vs passive key sensing.

The fact the dials don't come up means the ignition has not turned on. That has to happen before the car will start, and that for me means the starter is unlikely to be the problem.

Does the later l322 have a main relay ?
If it does, I would check that.
On older rangies it is possible to link across this (be very careful you get the right pins !) Too many toys, not enough time

I think the poster means the back lights come on.

He says above "TFT will light up ( just back ground not with the dials) but not even attempt to.turn over "
So that sounds like the ignition has not come on, to me anyway.

Maybe mctaggarts could confirm. Mind you,if it's going to the dealer anyway it's all academic anyway Wink Too many toys, not enough time
