Picked up my first FFRR yesterday from Land Rover Huddersfield, its a , 13 plate AB Sdv8 in Black with 22" alloys. Amazing machine but after a few hours driving around in my local area, I am noticing the very harsh ride on the 22s My test drive must have been on much better roads than where I live.

So My question is if I dropped down to 21" is there much difference or is it 20s I need to be looking at, if I change the wheels at some point?

IMHO, 20" with 255/55 tyres are probably the best combination. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

With each drop, you’ll get a little more comfort - but a little more roll on roundabouts and corners.

I tried all 3 and as I’m mostly motorways and fast A roads, prefer 22’s - and they look better IMHO

20" is best for comfort and looks like it's meant to be. 22's are harsh and more likely to suffer pothole damage, and some might say they look too big.

Thanks for the replies chaps, I must say I would like to hang on the 22s as they do look great.

On another note I think I could be confusing the fact that I seem to have a knocking from the front suspension, that I was blaming on the low profile tyres. Its just a small knock on rough slow surfaces, I,m going to take it back tomorrow and give them some stick...

Check your pressures in the 22's, I have got both 22" and a set of 20's with off road tyres - the 22's are fine as long as they are not overinflated - I run mine on the light load pressures and they are fine. Early 405’s suffer with suspension issues so make sure the dealer gets it right for you otherwise you will be driven MAD by rattles, knocks and a floaty feeling ride! If you need to pay for these then its VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

Can anyone recommend a half decent tyre pump/pressure gauge. In the past have bought the halford type and they seem to fall apart after one blow- & I have severel skeletons in my garage.

On my sport I was advised by a LR Master tech to change my tyres (when due) to a 275 45 20 instead of a 275 40 20. as it was a much better ride. It also fills the arch more which could work for the 22's although I have not tried that with my 405........ it could make it wallow a bit more.

I am looking for a winter tyre option for my L405...do I get a 22" winter tyre or buy a set of smaller rims?

There's a theoretical advantage in going to 20's and having slightly narrower 255 tyres - but no real benefit in taller sidewalls.

the 405 suspension is tuned to run the 22" rims, the 322 is not. It was only ever meant to run 20", which is why the ride might seem harsher on 22" in the 322 than it would on the same rim combo in the 405.

Personally I prefer the look of the 22" on the 405, but think they can look a bit big on the 322. 21" look good, but personally I run 20" with a 255/50 20 which is mfr standard. Its the best compromise on the 322 between looks and ride.

There are now an increasing number of tyre options in this size as Jag and Audi also have cars needing 255/50/20's so you can now get Scorpion Verde in this size where previously they were only available in 255/55. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
