When holding your remote to your head, your arm, shoulder and head form a much larger "body loop" antenna which is almost 100 times more efficient than the remote's antenna.

In my case I guess doing this boosted the signal over and above whatever was interfering with the connection between the fob and the receiver.

I have now taken mechanical locking mechanism out...not quite the same as the pictures...maybe mine is newer? Anyway, there is a 'cross' that fits into a section but clearly wasn't..all back together and working again now!
