Hello all,

I have a 2007 3.6 TDV8 and the driver's door is starting to play up.
When you pull the exterior handle it takes two pulls, so the first pull would seem as if the car was locked and do nothing, the second pull would open the door.
I'm assuming that either the cable or the locking module is at fault, but has anyone experienced the same symptoms and therefore can hazard a guess at the problem.

2 pulls is normal if the doors are locked... on the inside, you might have a lock fault, or it might just be warning you the cable is too long and it's going to snap Try a new cable first !! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Thanks for the reply. The door now takes about 3-4 pulls from the outside so I think you're right about the cable, it's obviously stretching. Let's just hope I can get it done before the impending dooms happens.

I ordered a cable last night but it stopped working today .
I'm using global opening to open the windows and then leaning in to the interior handle.
I should have the cable by Wednesday so not too long to wait.

Well I've got to say that is the first ffrr that I've come across that's give 2 days notice of impending failure

The other thing I found out, which is too late now, the LR price from the stealer isn't that much more than a wonder web supplier, only they don't charge you delivery at the stealers.. just make you collect it instead! And in my case I got the cable the next day

But the gits did make me go in and pay for it up front before they'd order... which was a mission as the door was stripped out They haven't heard of telephone sales, apparently they can't do payment over the phone 's Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Anti hijack system, the thing that locks the doors as you pull off.... you either have to push the unlock button on the dash or double pull the handle.... which is a safety feature just incase the system goes wrong! And I can't remember if they automatically unlock when the engine is turned off, I might be thinking of a different Range Rover from my past  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I see what you are saying. But doesn't literally every other type of car open a locked door with just one handle pull?

Well sort of, the Range Rover will open the door with one handle pull provided the doors are not locked, like first thing in the morning... you jump in the car only to remember that you have left your phone next to your packet of Woodbine's on the grand piano... the door will open with just one pull. But once you have travelled over 5MPH the anti hijack will kick in and lock the car.. you then have to override this with the dash lock control or double tap the handle, and as I said I'm 99% certain that they also unlock when the engine is switched off.

If you don't like this feature of your ffrr you can turn it off... just remember that it might be an insurance requirement in some regions! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Just a quick update. After days and days of rain, today was a nice sunny day, so time to have a go at the door cable.
It's a bit tight in places to get your hands in to do it but after a bit of fiddling managed to change the cable. The old on was hanging by a couple of threads of wire so had stretched and snapped some of the cores. It now works a treat and in fact the door opens with a lot less effort, meaning previously I had to pull quite hard on the handle to open it. It's always been that way for over 2 years of ownership so the old cable had stretched, slowly but surely.
The cable was £26 from eBay and works great.
