In one of the earlier threads on this topic the OP reported that he was told that the problem with the 3 litre engine started with the last of the L322s and continued to 2015 and that the VIN range for the issue was known. This does seem likely as once the problem emerges it would be logical for JLR to fix the problem even if it took a while to do so.
Are there any examples of failures for builds after 2015 which would contradict this?

Well that's a load of Censored , that 3.0 engine was never fitted to the L322. The 322 only ever had V8's from 2007MY onwards.

There have though been issues with 2.7 and 3.0 engines self destructing in the previous RRS Sport, Discovery and L405.

I personally know of one such failure in our family where the engine totally destroyed itself and was dealt with by a partial LR Warranty Contribution 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

What was the build date? Was it after mid 2015?

The OP may have been referring to the L320

Scotty,

With the L405 it seems that if there is a potential crankshaft issue then it is rare. The fact that the majority on this forum are not actually citing known examples of L405 3.0 failures seems to tell its own story (because for the ffrr enthusiast, this forum is the place to be)?

There are a number of owners on this forum querying the issue with different LR franchises. The collective answers received to date seem to be consistent (i.e. unheard of or rare and if it does occur during an LR warranty period then if not fully covered under the warranty, LR UK would be called upon by the franchise to pay the cost via ‘good will’.

Not the final definitive answer but an emerging picture.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Thumbs Up

Just on the point about replies from dealers when asked about 3.0 TDV6 problems, when I asked at Lloyd Land Rover in Kelso I was told they had replaced several 3.0 engines. That may not all have been in 405s. It seemed to be a well known issue there. Some other dealers may be less candid.

As probably posted on one of the linked threads, I think there was a recall on crank position sensors for cars built April 2012 to May 2013 and there was a service bulletin re crankshaft bearing failure for 2012 cars. The failure described by someone on here sounded like the bearing failure, but I think that was on a newer car. Only Range Rovers since 1988

If MY16 counts as 'after mid 2015' then there's an example on this thread

Just to add to this thread , i was with a customer today who has a 2016 discovery and had his engine replaced 4 weeks ago. He was told crankshaft bearing. The workshop foreman advised he change it before the warranty runs out in case it happens again !!! I'm not sure if it's exactly the same engine as an L405 but thought i would post anyway. 2015 4.4 AB
