Last year our RR spent some time in car hospital. Initially it was in a main LR dealer and was throwing some errors, this was put down to a faulty steering angle sensor on I think the steering column, which was replaced. The car was then in our local garage for a couple of weeks waiting for a new door lock.
Since then it is giving a bong, usually when cold (and not all the time) saying that the HDC is inactive and ABS fault, however the ABS is working as braking heavily you can feel the ABS working.

When it is 'bong free' the HDC selection is working and Low Range can be selected (also the air suspension raises and lowers)
When it is in 'bong mode' none of the above is operational.

I recently bought off ebay an ABS module, but its the mechanical unit, not the electrical connector block. I have had the connector off and cleaned up the contacts which made no difference at all.

I work away during the week and only have limited time at the weekends. Anyone have any ideas what module could be giving these errors, and more importantly where to hit the sodding thing with a lump hammer to fix it!

Oh yes, if anyone wants an ABS Module I have one for sale!

until you do you're only guessing , my guess at the minute wheel speed sensor starting to deteriorate (cheapest option first)

We did have a new front airbag fitted at the same time, suppose that could have affected the wheel speed sensors

You generally get the hdc inactive when it’s cold due to battery starting to weaken. Hdc is the first platform to drop. I would get it checked then plug in car and see if any faults been thrown...

Went out in the car at the weekend.

Started up from cold OK, no bongs, drove a few miles, put it into Low ratio, all OK, HDC turned on, all OK, suspension height raised and lowered, all OK.

On the way back home, stopped at shop in the village, came out, started up and BONG! HDC inactive, ABS etc etc.

That is basically what was happening to mine. Some journeys fine, others straight away, or at random times. Current cars:

I have the same , reading forums it may have to with a low battery.
It did bring up a faulty rear speed sensor on braking system , cleared fault and brakes have never given trouble , will just monitor?

I had similar and my suspension would lock so was not adjustable. I drilled a hole in the exhaust for the suspension compressor and all was well afterwards.

Steering sensor cause my problems just like Danwilderspin said

Mine was intermittent and only when it got hot, either driving or idling. It was the ABS module, the electrical bit not the other bit.

It’s a common fault and replacing mine cured the fault - well it did after resetting the SAS. ______________________________

Hey Paul, I have had

Our local mechanic ran some diagnostics this week, interestingly he couldn't get the ABS / HDC bongs to happen!

This is what he found.

Description:

Temporary system deactivation
ABS Supply Fault
ABS ECU Fault
U0121 ' Lost comms with anti lock brake system ABS control module drive cycle A State: Last occurrence - signal fault
P1614 Electric Thermostat circuit open. Drive Cycle A State: Last occurrence - signal fault

CAN Bus Fault
Compressor temperature rises when compressor inactive

CAN Bus ABS Timeout State: Plausibility Fault

Now it is due for its MOT soon and the only thing he can see it failing on is this intermittent ABS fault. He did say that there is a way to temporarily disable these warnings for the MOT. Is that possible?

Also, do the above errors point to me having to have the ABS unit repaired? He has suggested BBA Reman.
