FFRR 2018 - LWB Model - Would you?

I've currently got an order in for a 2018MY 5.0 SC AB, although I'm thinking about changing it to a LWB.

I'd like to hear your thoughts, advantages / disadvantages....... No one will be travelling in the back particularly, I just think maybe it looks better and may ride softer with the extra long wheel base - Any thoughts / opinions would be appreciated?

If your not going to use the back then why buy one - I personally wouldn't for the following reasons -

1) awkward to park
2) awkward to manoeuvre in tight areas
3) would ruin the performance (for me)
4) increased fuel consumption
5) massive depreciation as the market for a LWB is limited
6) I don't like the look of the longer wheelbase
7) purchase cost

But if you :

A) had a driver
B) rode in the back
C) had a mistress

Then the extra space is well worth having Thumbs Up 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

They're all good points, thank you Vogue...... I'm going for Santorini Black with Silver Contrast Roof and Atlas accents, also NO PRIVACY GLASS...... I think this video I found is probably influencing me - Not much around online without privacy glass and I thought this looked nice:

Just to make you aware, if you go for the “Atlas silver accents” and the silver roof etc etc the silver on the roof is a different silver to “Atlas” and the bonnet top panel will be a different silver again (much darker) as well as the tow eye cover on the front will be another colour too...

Many of my customers have been niggled by these inconsistencies... Whistle Thumbs Up

Pointless [unless you have a chauffeur and sit in the back]?

If no chauffeur; and your OP did mention that nobody in particular would be sitting in the back, then in answer to your original question, no, because nobody would be able to appreciate what the back has to offer (an AB sounds very nice).

Is that your views are pointless or the car is pointless ? Confused 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Oh great..... I hadn't thought of that - Is the car left looking a bit odd with this combo?

You say bonnet top panel, sorry for being stupid but where on the bonnet?

The difficulty is, with the new model, if you don't go for Atlas or Shadow, you're left with something called "Satin" - This is not body coloured as you might expect, instead it's a similar but slightly off colour, if that makes sense - In short, it has a rough matt finish which also doesn't match the car. See attached image

Although this image shows an SE model rather than an Autobiography, it's still pretty much the colour combo I've gone for.

I know it's not easy to tell with the white protective pillar strips still in place, but taking into account that the contrast silver roof is only a thin sliver, do you think the different shades of silver are less obvious without the darkness of the privacy glass?

I’d just add to Vogue’s comments:

8. No option to add roof rails and bars.
9. No option to add side steps.

Think I'll scrap the LWB then.... Red Merle, regarding the different shade of silver for the contrast roof, in light of the image attached and no dark privacy glass making it slightly less obvious, would this put you off?

My 2p:

I like the lines of the LWB.

I don’t think it will have a huge effect on performance, fuel consumption, or parking (but over here, I often can park my FFRR in a ‘small car’ parking space). Laughing

Yes, you WILL loose more in depreciation: you rarely make back the added price of ANY options.

In your case, it’s obviously a want, not a need. Test drive both. Look at both. If you have the £, buy what you like.

@aja500:

You might be asking the wrong person here as, while I like the FFRR with or without Privacy Glass, one of the most important styling features, of any Range Rover, has always been its body coloured “floating roof” - in the same way that a contrasting roof was always a Mini thing. I wouldn’t want to change that.

But, to go back to your original question, if you do mix two contrasting colours on a car (say, black and silver), it’s really important that all of the blacks and all of the silvers match.

I’ve never fought shy of getting a brand new vehicle and repainting bits that I felt that the manufacturer got wrong! Shocked I’ve done it to five now and the relevant supplying dealers have preferred the end result and been very happy to trade them back. If you did insist on a silver roof, I’d consider getting a body shop to spray the horizontal silver/grey plastic bits to match the roof (irrespective of Privacy glass or not) and paint the vertical “gills” in gloss body colour and make the car unique! Thumbs Up Adding horizontal contrasting stripes to anything always makes it look longer and it may get back some of the LWB look that you liked.

You did ask! Laughing

Firstly, thanks for your response RR2008HSE

Secondly, thanks also Red Merle..... Different opinions are what I want, this car is currently spec'd to £112k, so I want to get it right meaning all opinions are welcomed
