Anyone know the highest mileage m62 that hasn’t had the guides done? Current stable:

Is yours LPG Converted ?
My theory has been that the LPG ones go earlier ..

It is but how would that make a difference I have had the low temperature thermostat conversion on there for 20k miles im guessing that helps protect it. Do you change the chains as well as I’m guessing they stretch? Current stable:

over here as well then, i was asking dolphinboy if he has LPG as he did his at 188K, i don't know why but i read somewhere, my timing chain guides at 120k ish were perfect and my chains were exactly the same length as the new ones but i dont have LPG.
i think the engine runs hotter on lpg but hat could be complete

Yes mine has a stag System. It has been problem-free for over 7 years and 65,000 miles. It may make her run a bit hotter and this may have caused the brittleness but there are those with more LPG knowledge then me who say that's b*ll*cks and it doesn't run much hotter than otherwise. However guides and chain/tensioner all done for £3000 and running sweet again. It was the main V one that went.

I've seen them with much lower miles than 188K with the guides gone and mine were fine at 120k. it could be lpg influence or maybe oil type or maybe just the luck of the draw and differences in the plastic used, quality or even a variation within the same spec. i think whatever happens they will go one day for sure if the rest of the common faults don't bankrupt the owner into scrapping it for spares before they get chance to ruin your day
