Please can someone add a photo of the expansion tank on a 4.4 tdV8.
I have just been checking the antifreeze level on mine and it seems very distorted in shape, as if it might be being sucked in over time?
It doesn’t alter with the top on or off, so not under pressure?

It is a very strange shape for an expansion tank.

It has several baffles internally making it virtually impossible to reach the bottom if you were to try and clean it.

I don't think it changes shape over the operating temperature range.

I did clean the tank after getting low coolant level warning. used petrol and household degreaser. saved me from having. to buy new one. where i live that is major hasel.

I still have the remnants of oil from the cooler problem in my header hence no picture.

I'd definitely get kicked out of the club if I posted a picture of mine.

At least they are all roughly the same distorted “sucked in “ shape.
I wonder what shape a new one is??
Someone changed one recently, because the internal float switch failed, so that one should be clean enough for a photo

I think it was Zeppfish??

I will replace mine “when” it fills up with oil

mpirie, I had oil in my to from the leaking oil cooler. first time coolant was low enough to trigger the warning, float got stuck on the bottom and i had low coolant level on all the time. remedy was to clean the expansion tank, pictures here-
