update , my insurers called to tell me they were waiting to see how I wanted to proceed ? to which I replied , " I want my car repairing " they informed me I would have to claim off my own insurance before they would chase the 3rd party and recover my losses and then informed me that I would lose my 250 excess !!!! wtf ? so an old bat smashes into my FF and it costs me 250 quid !? how the **** does that work , I argued it out and they have decided as there is no dispute that she caused the damage , they will wave the excess ! grrrrrrrrr

And your premium will rise because you’ve claimed - fault or no fault.

It happened to me and my 7 series..... ______________________________

Contact the Third Party Insurer direct (Her insurance company). Providing she has reported it that is. You will need her policy No & Registration.
That way you don't need to deal with your insurer & just advise them that this is for information purposes only for the time being.
That way you can always claim on your policy later if you wish. Thumbs Up

My e60 5 series was hit in a starbucks car park whilst I was in a team meeting a few years back

The women in question walked in and asked 'who owns a black bmw' I stuck my hand up and she went onto explain how she had just hit it trying to park.

The damage was quite bad considering it was a newish car at the time. It needed a rear passenger door, wheel arch repair etc.

She gave me her name, address, insurance details etc so I rang them up straight away. Can't remember if it was privilege or prudential. Anyway I just dealt with them direct.

They got the car booked in and dropped me off a spanking new AMG E class courtesy car.

The only dealings I had with my own insurance was just a quick courtesy call to let them know what had happened.

All got sorted out over a 3 weeks or so and it didn't cost me a penny.

Yeah, your 'No Claims Bonus" will be reintstated, however that is simply a discount on your policy cost.
Your policy cost will go up because you have had a claim, and often by a considerable amount.

Say it is £1000 now, and you have 50% no claims discount so you pay £500, next year after a claim it may be £1400, you will still get your 50% discount but you will be paying £700.

I would as said above speak to her insurer. Porsche 911 (996)

That’s exactly what happened to me. I argued that I was told that my no claims discount wouldn’t be affected and my premium wouldn’t rise - but the premium did go up, considerably.

A friend told me that I shouldn’t have even spoken to my insurers and that I should have just corresponded with the woman’s insurance company. Once your insurers know they will increase your premium because as we all know most of them are owned by one big umbrella corporation and will get their money back one way or the other. ______________________________

I had some woman make a false claim against me and I fought it myself through court.
Cost me £1.5K out of my own pocket and premiums still went up because of it.
You can't win as even if you self indemnify they still screw you over.
I have 6 policies on the go so get screwed over 6 times!!

Just to say that it is a very bad idea not to speak to your insurer after an accident..regardless of who is at fault. Doing that will invalidate your cover as you will have failed to disclose a relevant material fact and they will know that because the accident will still be logged on the insurance industry database of accidents if it is going through the other party's insurers.

I reported my recent accident to my insurer and made use of their claims management company. No claims not affected as it was not my fault but coincidentally my insurance was shortly up for renewal so I used comparison sites to compare with / without accident declared. Interestingly it did not affect the ultimate cost bit it did affect which companies were the cheapest!
