Scotland 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black
Diesel Leak

Noticed a smell of Diesel when I parked up earlier. Seems to be coming from rear of RR

Looking under the RR, I can see a damp patch on the centre of the exhaust back box and Diesel dripping off the rear diff.
I can't see any evidence of a leak ahead of the rear diff and fuel tank looks dry.

Tank is half full and it has been a 2 weeks since I last filled up so don't think it is the filler pipe leaking.

Leak seems to be coming from behind the tank which seems strange to me as all pipes go forward from the tank to the engine.

Going to try and get the RR up higher tomorrow if I can and get right under to see if I can see how diesel is getting on rear diff

Any suggestions on what could be leaking would be appreciated.

England 

Check the FBH (Fuel Burning Heater) pump (Rear Right above upper wishbone) and pipework (from there to tank and to under Left tank cover) .

Thanks Joe I think you are spot on with your suggestion.

I have got the RR jacked up and there is a very sorry in-line pump looking device that is soaked in diesel.

As expected there doesn't seem to any easy way of getting the thing out and replacing it

Has anyone replace the FBH pump? Any tips? 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

I've got no experience but given my own leaks (onto the diff but from the diff seal) I thought I'd look it up.

Looking at the manual it looks quite straightforward ( no removing the diff or exhaust or anything!)

i had the same problem it was the fbh pump the end had rusted off the pump .

Thanks guys, Instructions make it look easy.

Just wondering if in reality it will be a case of rusty nuts and bolts and rubber pipes that will not release form the pump while trying to get you hand through a 3" gap 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

You can give yourself a bit more space by getting some jacks under the rear subframe and releasing the subframe mounting bolts and lowering (gently) that side.

You will probably have to replace the pipe from the tank and/or pipe to the FBH, which means removing tank covers etc. The piping fixings at the pump are almost impossible to remove in situ, and one time only so new fixings will be needed, and the pump itself will refuse to come out of its rubber mounting (bitter experience!), and the rubber mounting will refuse to come out of its resting place. .

Got the pump changed today. Decided to do it from under the RR. One arm either side of the diff and I managed to get it done.

Not as difficult a job as I thought. Once I got the 8mm bolt out that holds the pump on, one of the ends of the old pump snapped off. This made it easier as I could pull the pump down a bit and cut off the hose clips. Pipes slipped off easily, electrical connector was a bit tricky. The new pump went in the reverse of old one came out.

Old pump was well gone outer casing was well rusted and the pump just fell out of the rubber mount.

No all I need to do is get the fuel senders fixed 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

My L322 Vogue 3L seems to smell a little of diesel when the tank gets down to around half - never when full - could I have the same problem ? 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6
