SRS and Battery disconnect

Is it necessary to disconnect both ground and positive terminals on the battery if I need to disconnect the door SRS? If waiting 10 or 20 min for the SRS system to drain down per RAVE why would we need to remove the positive battery cable?

I think I just removed 1 side of the battery and left it the 20 minutes. Cant think what difference removing both would do.

Regarding the door SRS. IIRC the connector to the airbag is very fragile. Take your time with it. I cant remember the exact details, but I remember snapping a small piece of plastic when taking mine apart which I had to repair / replace / bodge back into place for the connector to work again.

I half remember it was a part of the connector which forced home the electrical connections i think. Without the piece of plastic, the circuit would not complete and the car would log a fault with the airbag as a result.

Thanks. Yes anything BMW plastic related is expected to break. Just doesn't age well.

I think it is just a double safety thing. I usually remove both terminals and put an old sock over both ends, just to ensure the SRS does not get reactivated by an accidental reconnection. Opens cans of worms if you have bits of the SRS unplugged when you reconnect! .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink
