Transmission thumping

My car has a thumping noise when driving and seems worse when slowing down.

I have all ready changed the rear prop shaft bearing and done a wheel bearing so no there done.

I had a very quick look under the car in my lunch break to check the shaft going from the transfer box to the front diff as heard about pinion bearings going.

Whilst seeing if there was any movement in the shaft the whole transfer case moved up and down now instantly I’m thinking that isn’t right but don’t have enough time to get it up in the air and look until next week.

Anyone else have similar problems I’m wondering if I have an engine or gear box mount gone?

Hi Mine developed a thump last year - although it was more noticeable when selecting reverse or drive .. turned out was a rear CV joint , perhaps worth a check ?

Cheers

Simon

Mine thumps when I let off the throttle going slowly and then accelerate again.
I have strapped a web cam under mine to try and find the source, I have rebuilt my transfer box and changed out my front outer cv joints, I have a 6 way electronic chassis ear which shows up as the loudest by the transfer box front output to the prop shaft and I still can't find it. Mine is a harsh bang almost.
I've looked at engine mounts and transmission mounts but I think the only way I'd find it is by putting it on a 4 wheel rolling road or laying under it.
It has annoyed me for years

Had similar before my front diff coupling and prop failed a few weeks back.. you couldn’t feel any play in front prop at all then it went with a bang.. had been whistling a few days prior to its failure as well.

Mine has been doing it for about 4 years and never got any worse, part of me has been willing it to finally break so I know what it is but it's not really bad but just sounds harsh when it does it

Nothing to do with the rubber doughnut joint at the front end of the front prop shaft by any chance?
Had similar on my discovery.

Thanks for the offer ken.

I think I’m getting closer to the issue. We’ve ran it down morlaix Avenue in neutral to rule out gearbox and prop shaft and think we’re looking at both n/s wheel bearings.

The offer still stands.
I've recently changed my Transfer Box, TB Oil, Diff Oils and Gearbox Oil so I'm getting quite used to crawling underneath a Fattie.
PM me if you want contact details.

Cheers,
