Evening all,

My 2012 Westminster has keyless start, but some days it takes several attempts to turn over, often just getting all the lights on the dash then a click when I press the start button. Some days it bursts into life and others it’s a pain

Have tried both keys with new batteries and tried having the key in all sorts of places in the car

Any suggestions please?

Reading through other posts of a similar nature, it would appear that this is a starter motor / solenoid issue. I think most people have cured this by changing the motor / solenoid

Might be just me but I'm waiting to see northernmonkeyjones to reply to you northernmonkey

Thanks both, it’s only 31000 miles, but i guess lots of small journeys but more work on the parts - I’ll get it into the garage in the next few weeks 2012 westminister Overfinch Obsidian Conversion

Our 2012 4.4 has just ticked over 15k miles and has had 2 replacement starter motor already for exhibiting exactly the same symptoms you describe.

Annoyingly it's started doing the same thing again now and the other day it took 12 presses of the button before the car finally started. Our car doesn't do short journeys and only comes out of the garage when it's going on a long run so it can't be wear and tear on the starter motor.

I just can't see how a 15k mile car should need it's 4th starter motor!

Relay 6 in the engine compartment fuse panel is for the starter solenoid so worth replacing it before considering the starter itself.

Had the same problem when I had a 2011 l322 when only 18 months old and 6000 miles. dealer fitted a new starter motor under warranty and it is a known weakness. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

Thanks all, sounds like the starter motor is the culprit. I have only had the car a few months so have an RAC warranty on it with no upper limit, spoke to them this morning and they are happy for me to take it anywhere VAT registered so now its between my local specialist PVH landrover or going to the main dealer? Finally got it in today to get looked at, took it to PVH landrover in stokesley, was the starter motor after all so thanks to all who diagnosed it on here! All covered under warranty and PVH dealt with all the paperwork and warranty stuff! Happy boy with a 100% working FFRR again. 2012 westminister Overfinch Obsidian Conversion
