Yes, that sounds very much like an aftermarket item. Definitely worth removing if you can, just to confirm whether it's affecting anything.

I think the TV goes to mute on untuned channels to prevent 'static' noise through the speakers.

It will be getting removed tomorrow after work for sure. I only hope I manage to workout where all the wires then plug into.

Thanks for your help- I will update as soon as im done. Out of curiosity, is the silver box that Dogman posted the amp? And do you know what the Black box would be that says 'LEAR' on it and what it does?

Going by the eBay link description, and the pictures it looks like the radio ("head unit") module.

Bypassing the telemute should be easy if it's the correct BMW/RR kit (rather than a universal one), unplug the two large square black connectors on its harness (the plug from the radio module, and the socket from the vehicle harness). Then plug the large black connector from the vehicle harness directly into the radio unit, instead of it going via the harness for the telemute.

There may be one or more small (white?) rectangular connectors fitted inside the large black connector that you take out of the radio which need moving over to the other connector, not sure what's used on the FFRR compared to the BMW Mini system I'm familiar with.

Photos of bits and connections as they stand would be very handy if you can post any!

Thats no problem-when you say the fuse-what fuse? I dont recall seeing a fuse at the amp,or in it when I was dismantling it?

The module you are referring to, can you describe it? I came across a box called Telemute Module that had two sets of wires going to it, a set at either end. The module was a little bit smaller than a packet of cigarettes. Does this sound like what you described?

Anyone else had similar problems?

Fraser

Fraser there is a fuse board in the glovebox...i think it is fuse 49 which controls audio/sat nav.

A little update. I decided that because I didnt have the DSP option on the monitor that I had to replace the DSP amp. So after spending £741 on a new DSP I now have that option on the screen. But I still do not have any sound at all. Could this be this BM54 thingy that needs replacing then? I took that apart and a little water has been in there previously.
Disconnected the telemute things also with no improvement-help needed here as im now lost as to what to do apart from keep replcing things-which could be a very expensive process.

Fraser.

The DSP has three telephony related inputs. One os used for switching over to telephone audio. This allows udio from two other leads to be played throught he DSP. These are supposed to come from telephone equipment so that when a phone call is active it should be possible to have the audio play through the DSP, muting other sound: It also means that if that phone control lead would be active by accident it could result in muting the DSP.

Most recently my DSP showed heavy corrosion on its earth lead on the heavy gauge wire connector due to the seems mandatory decade of water ingress. Worth a check. /gunnar L322 Vogue V8 -03 Giverny Green
