detachable towbar Q?

my 322 has a full LR tow bracket and lectrics fitted ( dated 2002) from new but it hasn't seen a lot of use by the looks of it , the detachable swan neck is missing , is there only one type for the factory tow kit ?

To my knowledge, you can get two different types.

There is the swan neck, and there is also a drop plate.

If you want the swan neck, you can either get the westfalia version, or the britpart one. The two parts are identical, and are both made by westfalia

This may be a silly question ,but are you sure it's actually missing?

There is dedicated storage for the detachable swan neck and its keys under a flap in the floor of the boot at the right hand side - just below the removable panel for fuses etc on the right. You wouldn't be the first not to have realised it was there. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

The 'flange' towbar (aka farmers hitch) is just over £120 from P F Jones.
They sometimes come up on eBay for less. (Although someone is selling one at the moment on there which isn't actually the tow bar but is one of the bits which is removed when the armature is fitted, so don't be tempted by the £60 price!).

I think the farmers hitch is better cause I can put bikes on it as well as tow the caravan, when I'm not towing the blanking plug is fitted and the hitch is in the garage. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

I have the heavy pin and ball plus steps tow hitch that came off my 110 originally and was then used on a Disco.

My 54-reg TD6 has a detachable ball. Will I have to replace the whole towing assembly from under the back, or is there somewhere the whole unit splits so that I can get it to end in a plate to bolt the proper tow hitch to.

So many questions, so little time...........

This is the heavy duty "farmers hitch" it fits straight on to the FF if you remove the female receiver for the removable hitch.

Another advantage of the farmers flange Shocked is that you can adjust the height if necessary Thumbs Up

I had 3 different tow balls on my L322- and my favourite was an early flange/farmers hitch - as they had a smooth hole and I had a pin rather than a bolt.
Later ones were half threaded and required a bolt - which took an age to remove,

IMHO the 'removeable' hitch left too much in place vs the amount that was removable.

Another vote for the farmer's version. Height adjustable, can carry a bike rack and tow at the same time. You can fit the ALKO tow balls if you want to which gives a bit more clearance from bumper to ball. The genuine one has 2 sets of holes, aftermarket has 3 and it a bit bigger. No need to remove it as a FFRR is meant for towing and doesn't look wrong with the towbar left in place. Thumbs Up

Just tagging on to this subject.
I've got a westfalia removable towbar fitted. To remove is it supposed to be a case of unlock with the key, turn the knob to the green and the ball drops out? Mine doesn't want to play Confused
