Dash cam install

I'm interested in installing a dash cam in the L322 (2008) but I don't want a bunch of messy wires dangling about, or loosing the use of the centre console 12v socket. I'm also not interested in making any serious modifications to the car (wires, holes, etc.).

1. Fuses.
I've read that dashcams can be 'hard wired' into the electrical system by using a 'fuse jumper' to get power from an appropriate circuit. So, any idea of an appropriate number fuse to pick? It needs to be live when the car is on, but off when the car is shut down. (Or is it insanity to even thing of going anywhere near the L322 electrical system?)

2. Install.
Anyone found a good location for the cam and a good routing for the wires to keep everything nicely neat, clean, unobtrusive and out of the way? I'm no expert when it comes to the site search function.

Thanks in advance. Bow down I've got a Garmin 35 on approval but sticking it in the middle of the windscreen with enough wires to resemble the Delorean from Back to the Future is a nonstarter.

Really easy. From an area near the mirror (suggest passenger side tucked in close to the rear view mirror) you'll be able to tuck the cable in behind the roof lining. Then you'll get to the A-pillar which is easy to remove. You'll need a torx driver and the screw is behind the airbag badge. Then the pillar cover will pop off. Run cable down. From there you need to drop it behind the dash. You can use a guide string with a little weight on the end. Then you have a number of options. If your cable is long enough you can run it to a cigarette lighter socket in the centre console. Or run it to the fuse box and fit a simple piggy back fuse connector. None of is is destructive to the RR and you haven't needed to drill a single hole. Re fuse sizes I am sure someone here could calculate but if in doubt with a 1A or 2A and I think you'll be ok. Better to try too small and it'll blow if not big enough! My crude method! Take your time, good luck! Cheers, Greg

IIRC it is #7 fuse (there, I did in in North American for you Wink ) It is an ignition on circuit, so powers off with the car. If you want power on all the time, then we'll need to find an always on fuse, or get a battery back up pack thingy for the cam. The Blackvue one has its own version you can buy as an extra to go with it. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Thanks, Joe. #7 sounds perfect. Bow down I don't want an always on circuit, just an ignition one. The Garmin 35 has battery backup for 30 minutes, which is plenty for proper shutdowns and any handheld use.

Youtube has a video on removing the interior A trim on a RR Sport. I'm hoping it's the same. I don't want to mess with any airbags.

And yes, speaking (or writing) English is a tech challenge. I needed Microsoft's online help to FINALLY stop Outlook from 'correcting mistakes' like colour and realise. (Even Firefox is flagging them both now.) John Cleese has an excellent little speech on the subject. Laughing
