DPF regeneration

Well that's the old girl serviced today, done the diffs, transfer box and all filters and oil.

I used the wiki to check the process for the oil and fuel filter, excellent write ups made it easy! Changing the oil couldn't be easier with the plug on the sump, don't even need tools!. Very Happy

Anyway I reset the service interval with the IID tool and went for a run, only to get the DPF message when I started her up.

I read the handbook and it says run above 50 mph for 20 mins. Is this the only/best way to do it, taking it on a run. Not a problem as I do about 35 miles each way for work. This coming on isn't a result of anything I've done service wise is it? Just coincidental. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

If your daily run is 35 miles at speed then it would seem strange that the DPF needs to regenerate..

Usually thats when they are pootled round town that they get blocked up!

Can't see what you would have done service wise to upset it though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cam-Tech-Craig used to say that "she needs Italian tune up once in awhile".
Do mist the gay, always so helpful, and knowledgeable. he was essential in as figuring out where the oil leak was on ours 4.4TDV8. hope he comes back to forum.

NMJ..I don't use the FF for work every day, but my wife used it Thursday and Friday and was stuck in traffic and stop starting in road works and round town. Don't quite understand why that would make it happen either, but I shall drive it like I stole it on Monday to try clear it.. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

It's not hard, just that access is a pain! The rear diff and transfer box are easy, the front diff a bit fiddly as the engine subframe gets in the way a bit, I ended up putting the hex socket in the plug and using an open ended spanner to turn both the drain and fill plugs.

I have an oil suction gun which makes it easy to pump the fluids back in.

The fill and drain plugs are pretty obvious with the drain plugs at the bottom and the fill plugs on the side.

The rear diff drain is just a 3/8th ratchet as it's square, the fill is 8mm hex as are both trans box plugs.
The front diff is 14mm hex for both.

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Stu just to let you know a yellow DPF warning quickly changes to a RED which puts it into limp mode and you can't give it an Italian tune up.

So if you can't get it on a good blast DPF run then don't take it out until you can.

Been there myself.

And how hard was the transmission oil change?

. Cheers, Greg

Good discussion on it here:

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic42087.html?highlight=dpf

I think min 20 mins / min 2000rpm. Better 2500rpm

It's all about turning the DPF into an oven which burns off excess soot.

I put the cruise control on and the auto in S mode - then use manual flappy changes to keep the revs up even if the traffic slows I can still keep the tach over 2000.

But if you 've got a clear stretch hold it in 5th or 6th gear and go go go.

I could actually 'feel' the engine management doing things, like little variations and pulses in revs. Then presto after 25mins or so the orange light went out.

.
. Cheers, Greg

Well that must be the most uncomfortable drive to work ever!! Didn't break any speed limits but kept revs between 2.5 and 3k for 35 mins.. Shocked
Warning triangle was still on as I pulled into work, but went off as I pulled in the car park! Let her run down for 5 mins after such a screaming. See if it comes back or stays clear on the way home. Here's hoping! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
