Another reduced performance!

Hi all,

Wife used the FFRR today and I get an irate phone call when she is on way home. Reduced performance on dash and 50 mph.

I told her just to keep going and I'd have a look when she gets home.

I have just plugged in the IID tool to read codes, there is one triggered yesterday which I'm not sure of (in the attached image)

When I started the engine it had cleared itself, I read the faults as I said, cleared them and took it for a run, giving it lots of abuse, read faults again and nothing listed.

I've read a lot of the reduced performance threads and have somewhere to start tomorrow with split hoses.

Anyone got any ideas, advice etc, if so greatly appreciated! The old girl has been faultless since I got her earlier this year.

You could have just edited the first post rather than making the thread even longer Whistle

Turbo hoses is the likely culprit on a 3.6, but not heard of that being as much of a problem with the 4.4 - though I could be wrong and certainly worth checking them Thumbs Up

This thread is the only other one I remember about the 4.4.

Look at the 4 ports on the manifold.
If any are sooty black, check the short rubber connecting hose.
It may be split, but also it could just be loose and need the jubilee clip tightening.

The air intake manifold.
Just remove the engine cover by lifting it off. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Thanks for that! The pictures hadn't loaded on my iPad when I looked before all there now.

Going to service the old girl tomorrow so will have a good prod about.

Whilst you are under the front of the car, you might want to check the air change-over valve to see if it is modified.
My 2011 was the old valve and I got "restricted performance " warning.
Mine was replaced under warranty and has been fine since.( 12 months +)

We had a problem with the inlet manifold on our 4.4 TDV8 last year whilst in France. It showed itself as a 'Reduced performance' issue. It would initially reset itself if I turned the engine off and on but eventually stayed on permanently. The manifold had actually split and had to be replaced by a dealer in France.

just been out and checked mine for POM, it seems that i have the non nut version of the air changeover valve so thats good. Now in terms of the 4 little rubbers.

I seem to remember a post about them being either smooth or having a rib. Mine have the rib. which is the updated part? smooth or ribbed.

They all seem in good order at the moment but it looks an easy job to swap out the rubbers if i have the older ones.

looking at the TSB above it looks like the smooth ones are the newer type? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thumbs Up

For info.... you can see the changeover valve from the top, if you take the engine cover off, get a torch and look down between the back of the fan and the pulleys, it sits, slightly towards the passenger side in that gap, towards the bottom of the engine. Definitely smooth, no ridges.
Part number LR048062. Intake duct, x4.

Cheers.

I was told that the change over valve only moves a couple of mm when it operates and that is why the unmodified type sticks.
It gets dirty from road muck.
I have given mine a squirt of white lithium grease. Easy job. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
