So, December saw a new Gearbox & Fuel Pump.... Whats Nex

I got a local specialist to replace my gearbox with an Ashcroft Transmissions refurbished unit. Got it backa couple of days before Christmas and parted with just over £3k for the pleasure....

Boxing Day - won't start, won't even hint at it... Have a check about and determine its the fuel pump. Fabulous! Local Stealer had to order one so I bought a "new, take-off" from EBay to try and ensure I had at least one before the end of the year. They both arrived yesterday so I fitted the EBay one and will try and take the other one back...

Fitting the fuel pump is fairly easy. The trickiest bits are getting the fuel pipes off the top without damaging them and then getting the internal cross-pipes off and then on again. Top tip for anyone going to do this is tie a thin piece of string round the pipes so you don't have to go fishing in the petrol tank and have something like surgeons forceps to get a hold of it and guide it back onto the pump while the pump is half in the tank - That was fun, not.

So, now its up and running once more. There must have been air in the fuel pipes for a while because my mpg figures were hilarious - reset and got 5mpg, reset, same again... I actually wondered if I'd missed a seal out but it sorted itself out soon enough...

Oh, and I now know whats next. SWMBO has just informed me that her battery light came on on the way home.... Crying or Very sad

Tim,
Trust me, that was a break from tradition.

Previous classics have been "the heater hasn't been working for a couple of weeks" and now the temperature gauge doesn't move... Fortunately, no lasting damage to that one.
