When my turbo went it was the impeller shaft, the shaft had snapped and the oil was going straight into the exhaust so my smoke cloud was huge. , yours is getting oil from somewhere so I would be thinking an oil seal in the turbo BIT I'm not an expert. 2015 4.4 AB

Is it loosing coolant?
Have you taken off top intercooler hoses?
Oil in the bottom intercooler hose possibly indicates turbo oil seal failure. Which probably corresponds to exhaust smoke at idle. ______________________________

No the car is not loosing any coolant. I have already taken off the top intercooler hoses. They were both okay but it was a little bit oily. Also the Air filter had a bit of oil splashs on it.

Haven't taken of the bottom turbo hoses yet but will do asap. Is it possible to check the turbo without mounting off the body, just for checking the turbo non replacement?

I don't understand oil on the air filter.

If you can, remove both bottom intercooler hoses. This will confirm a turbo oil seal failure on one or both turbos. I'm guessing a lot of oil will be found.

Hello together,
as i was very very busy due to work i had no time for caring about the car until now.

Looks like my turbo is gone Smile due to the oil on the housing




Does anyone of you got a PDF file from the TopIX which describes the Swap of the Turbos? Or is there any tutorial available
for the L322?


I already bought 2 new ones and will have the weekend to find the reason for the Turbo Damage and to clean the whole
air intake/exhaust system. -.-

My indie says there is no way to confidently change the turbos without removing the engine. Maybe there is a way but I would Imagine it would be even more hardship. 2015 4.4 AB

I have rave for it and the engine doesn't come out in the LR procedure.

A fair few bits have to come off to get at them but the engine and gearbox stay in the car. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Hello again,

sorry for my late answer. We are currently working on the car. Yesterday we did the replacement of the RHD Turbo and will start next weekend with the LHD Turbo. Have to do it in 2 steps because the security wheel bolt got stuck Rolling Eyes Censored

As far as i can say now the the engine stays inside the vehicle! Thanks a lot to northernmonkeyjones for your great support. Bow down Thumbs Up
Will keep you up to date and i hope i can tell you some good news next weekend. Will also do some more pics of the LHD swap process...

Hello together,

finally I can say the work is nearly done.

Swapping the RHD Turbo is easy compared to the LHD. It can be done through the wheel house and the engine compartment. (Wheel off, Plastics off, Exhaust parts off, and you have an small access) The LHD Turbo change is much more difficult...But the engine can stay inside the vehicle during both works.

To change the LHD Turbo you have to remove the Differential Gear, Front Sub Frame, and some more Connectors, parts of the Exhaust,.. -> a real hard job if the car got rusted screws... Censored Censored

My LHD Turbo was completely seized and stucked. The RHD Turbo sucked the Oil through the Intercooler and the exhaust... -> Lot of cleaning work to do.. Photos will come later..

@rar110 I bought both Turbos from Turbozentrum in Berlin. They were 500,-€ each but have a 2 year warranty (don't know the exact regulations but I also don't really care about that Wink ) To be honest I don't know the real difference between both versions.

--> Maybe anyone can give support there?

The price was 500,- Euros per each.


As i said the work is nearly done i was a bit too quick..

Now we have the Problem of 2 trouble codes.The Turbo actuators are working -> checked with Camera...

P132E "Turbo boost control B performance"
P138F "Turbo boost control unit Sensor minimum"

Anyone got an idea?
