Can anyone identify the part in the middle of this picture just under the engine cover, it has a hard plastic shell and a few pipes coming out of it, fuel filter can be used for orientation. Its quite a clicky little thing but has random bouts of loud clicking which is why I ask, is it on its way out ?

Is it the oil pump? or is that too high?

Does it tick irregularly on cold start then quieten down?  405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

not the scavenge pump that is on the other bank.

it is the HP fuel pump providing the HP diesel feed to the injectors. It is a fuel on demand system, which is why its not a constant tick.

ticking is probably normal...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hard to tell from the diagram what bit goes where ? Here's another without the cover on

still the HP pump. the black plastic part is a cover, if you look round the back you can see the pump and 2 diesel lines with grey sleeving on them coming out.

It runs off a sprocket drive into the timing gear in the head, there is a solenoid on the top which is probably what you can hear clicking. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks, mind a little more at rest now as never heard it before (but can't say I've ever really listened). Had an oil change and air filters done a day ago so was wondering if linked.

So for a bonus point what's the high pitched whistle that goes on for a minutes after the engine is turned off ?

what whistle? the one inside the cabin?

in which case its the fan on the temperature sensor next to the up/down/face controls on the AC panel.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
