Thanks to the JackRegan link it is apparent that a fair few people have had their buttons collapse in the same way and one post dates back to 2013

Yep, mine failed after 4 years and was replaced under the Extended Warranty. cheers 2017 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 (with e-diff)
