ABS sensor. Have I been an idiot

So replaced the right rear abs sensor over the weekend and that curred the speed sensor issue for abou 100 miles. However it's now back.

Thinking back to the old one and when I installed the new one there was no dielectric grease on the sensor or the reluctor ring. I didn't put any on either. Do you think this is the issue? I'm thinking yes.

How much needs to be put on? Current cars:

I say NONE because the sensor has to detect the teeth and the gaps between the teeth.

LR supply the grease with the sensor. I didn't use it.

Doesn't it work by magnetic detection? And that by removing the electrical air gap that it will get a better connection? Current cars:

It's not adjustable as far as I can tell. So I don't know. I'd have hoped so. Current cars:

Had similar on mine, turned out I hadnt pushed it in quite enough. A gentle tap saw it fully home and its been fine ever since.

I'll whip it out again this weekend and make sure all is fully clean again.

It was exceptionally tight to fit, so will try and free up the hole and see if I can get it to sit any closer to the ring. I had tapped it in previously, but maybe it's not far enough in.
