I hope I don't need one, buuuut, you never know. What's the difference between the BT tool and the none BT tool, is it just bluetooth? If it is then how do you read the non BT tool, does it plug into a tablet or laptop with usb lead?

The BT one can be linked to a suitable device using Bluetooth, I use an iPad but you can use an Android device.

The non BT one uses the readout on the instrument cluster and the buttons on the steering wheel to navigate the menus etc.

I don't think they sell the non BT one any more anyway, so if you wanted one it would need to be secondhand.

The BT one has so much more in the way of functions like live values etc. As Stan has said have a look at the thread to gain more info.

The non BT version can be connected to the vehicle via the USB cable and this is necessary to flash an ECU, as in, updating the phone module to automatically connect to the phone and display the phone book etc.

The details are in the users manual but I haven't managed to get this working myself yet, when I follow the instructions I get an "IID Tool Not Found" message and have been in contact with Patrick at GAP but I haven't had time to have another go at it yet.

He's suggested that I try a different port, which I have and my laptop seems to search all ports but doesn't find the tool, or a different USB cable, which I don't have but the laptop and tool do connect with the cable provided to update the firmware and tool, or try a different computer, which I haven't tried yet.

So to answer your question, yes, the tool and laptop can be connected via the USB cable.

I would get the Bluetooth one.

I use diagnostic software on laptops for my other cars and it's a real pain if you want to tinker under the bonnet but can't see the live data readings.

The BT IID is perfect as you can wander round the car without a problem.

Thanks men, looks like the BT is the one to have then. At the moment it seems I don't really need one (touch wood) but I'll see how it goes
