Australia 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Atacama Sand

The 4.4 tdv8 has been around for about 5 years, with very few reported problems. A very nice motor matched well with the ZF 8 speed. The same basic set up is in the L405 selling today.

The 4.4 is a step up from the 3.6. One option is to keep the td6 a bit longer, especially if it's going ok and not worth a lot.

The 3.6 has been the best car I've ever owned. It's done 265,000km and runs like a dream. I can't upgrade to a 4.4 as they are twice what I paid. One day maybe. Being limited to 20" tyres puts me off the 4.4 as I do some beach and off road work. I have a set of 18" tyres for this.

I have disabled the EGRs using emulators but left them in place. ______________________________

Have a gook look through the Wiki for stuff to look for when buying.

I bought a car that had been serviced every 10,000km and had the well looked after appearance. That was important to me. ______________________________

Portugal 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

Thanks!

I will try and see the TDV8 on Wednesday, if i like what i see i will buy it! I love my TD6 but i want the next step! Maybe later i change to the 4.4.

Can you explain me how can i buy that EGR emulators? How it costs? Where to buy? Is also more safe to the turbo issues? And MPG did you notice any advantage? Is easy to do it, or only must be done by experts?

My mechanic said to me to look about the noise of the engine and ear to see if there is anything clikin. And drive it and see if there is anything wrong.

Do you or anyone have any more advice ?

Many Thanks,
Regards Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded

Open the windows and listen for sounds in motor, drive train, brakes and suspension. Notice how well in changes through the gears. Chanda high to low range a few times. Raise and lower the EAS. Check switches all work. Move driver seat forward and backward. Look for rust in the usual places. Read the wiki. ______________________________

There are a couple of options for disabling the EGRs. BAS maps them out so they have minimum effect. I went to emulators so they don't move at all and stay in the closed position. There are different benefits for both options.

The online shop for emulators is here:
https://store.autocode.com.au/egr-emulator.html

Production and delivery seem slow lately. So you may need to follow them up if it does arrive in a month.

Induction cleaning products are also a good idea IMHO.

But non of the above are urgent purchases.

I think the MY08 or MY09 could be a little better (other that stator bush issue) being the last run before LR went to the MY10 with facelift and quite a lot electronics upgrades. ______________________________

Apologies for this, Goncalo - but I am going to throw a spanner in the works . . .

I ran a Td6 06 MY for 18 months. Utterly reliable & never let me down - superb. Yes, I knew about the problem gearbox issues.

After a couple of years, I bought an AJV8 4.4 and ran that for 18 months. Not quite as reliable for me, but still very good. Lots more power, smoother, much quieter.

But after a short period of time I realised that what I liked about both cars (which otherwise were identical) was just being in them and for that there was no difference.

In hindsight I preferred the Td6 - he says preparing for incoming flak !

Thanks rar110!

Paul... donīt say me that Laughing

I know what you mean! My TD6 is my 5th RR and this year i think a lot to change... and go to other brand and that, was already a decision,... i tried the new sport MY14, the XC90 de F-pace and others... and didnīt felt good inside... I realise i don't want to miss the unique driving position. Maybe in a couple of years.

The decision came to get other L322 a little more reliable without the GM gearbox, and with more power!

Changing from my TD6 to the TDV8 is not a huge investment and i think i will be happy! I HOPE!!! Very Happy

I hope i'm making the right decision! Bow down

By the way Paul why in the end you liked more the TD6? Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded

A facelift td6 is a nice vehicle, only let down by the transmission. ______________________________

^^ I think it came down to the memories of journeys we undertook in the Td6. We drove 3000 miles around Europe in three weeks. Apart from a flat battery one day, it was superb returning over 30mpg in spite of the amount of high speed roads & air con usage.
I found the petrol V8 a little hesitant to stay in a gear as it's torque delivery was higher up the rev range.
I expect though that you wouldn't have that with a TDV8 . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Hi

I also went from a TD6 to a TDV8 and performance wise there is no comparison - the TDV8 is smoother, quieter and quicker. The TDV8 has a more modern idash but comfort-wise there is no difference - both excellent vehicles. I've no regrets about moving to a TDV8 but then I would have no issue buying a TD6 again if I found myself short of cash Surprised 2017 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

And the seats are not as comfortable in the TDV8 as the air bags are in them, so the top of the backrest can't be moved.....

Plus the headlining in my TD6 was much more of a quality item.....

You said you LIKE your td6. So keep it. Yes, at some time in the future, the transmission will have issues. If that's tomorrow, you can buy the TDV8 with a clear conscience. If it goes in 15 years time, you will have got a lot of inexpensive motoring done in the meantime.

What would the For Sale section look like if we all sold our FFRRs in anticipation of problems and bought other ones? It'd be a crazy game if musical chairs.

The decision was made and... already change my signature... TDV8 in the house!

The TDV8 is completely different from the TD6... what a car!!! I'm so happy with it!
The drive is so smooth, so quite, so powerful! SO Great!!!
Looks like it has less 1ton! It's so much fun to drive!

Yesterday i came back from pick up the car and made 300km in the highway at 140km/h and got 10,2L ( 28MPG ) Shocked
