When I get some time off I shall try and find a bodyshop to sort it. I've only used a body shop once, recommended by a ,ate. They didn't do a great job on wifey's car many moons back. So, time to shop around.

Worth shopping around, don't go with the cheapest, go with the one with the nicest cars on the lot! There are a few I have used round here and the guys I used for the bumper weren't the cheapest but they were the only ones who said that they would take the bumper off! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Bit of an update on my rear parking sensors.

Have been putting up with their intermittent behaviour for months but as the fattie was at the dealers for an MOT today got them to investigate again, figuring they will be covered by warranty if there's a problem found.

Got a call mid afternoon....."yes we have checked the system out, no faults showing but it's still not beeping correctly. we were about to start unplugging individual sensors and then discovered that the reason they probably aren't working is because they have been painted over"....

Upshot is that new sensors aren't covered by warranty as they haven't failed (just been painted). It seems that the previous owner must have scuffed the bumper at some point and probably just took it to a cheap bodyshop for a quick blow over, probably just before he traded up to an L405

It's bugging me now so I will have to get new sensors and fit them myself, dealer wanted £600 to do it

At least I know what the issue is.

Mine do look like they have been painted in with the bumper re-spray so.......

1. How easy are the sensors to remove? Do I need to take the bumper off?

2. Whats the best way to clean the paint off? Would sitting them end on in a couple of mil of cellulose/brake cleaner for a couple of hours work?

Whatever means you use, I would only do one to start with. How about something as simple as fine wet and dry or 1000 wire wool, at least that won't damage the plastic.

Try dipping the end of a cotton wool bud in cellulose thinners then rubbing one before going to the trouble of removing them. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

I found that corrosion was causing the paint to 'bubble' on a couple of mine causing the sensors to activate when there wasn't anything near them. A good clean up and repaint cured the problem... QUID FACIUM TIBI
