Like the idea of a "Fix it yourself" weekends.
Good luck for the future, although with your reputation, I am sure you wont need it.

Phil, your idea is a sound one. Last time I really took a box apart it was the days of brake bands (yes I really am that old Laughing )
Would love to better understand the modern stuff and I suspect there are a lot more people out there the same. I would probably buy a S/H 6HP28 just to rebuild as a spare if you were serious about this course.

Of course, exchange boxes are a buoyant market too so you'll win both ways. Thumbs Up

Phil,

What's the best way to contact you.

6hp26, not 5hp24 I'm afraid!

All the very best for your new business, Phil.

It takes courage to do something like this, but I'm sure you'll be successful and make a go of it. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I started my own business 6 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did (if a little daunting at the time!).

Big congrats Phil and welcome to the start of the self working club Smile you won't look back once it starts taking off and if you play your cards right you might even be able to sub contract time back to your old FT employer as things move along Smile

Though I do wonder when you'll start doing the good old GM units Wink

And I'd love the DIY weekend Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

ZF 5HP24 overhaul

Hi Phil, congratulations on the venture into self employment! Smile
I am very interested in attending one of your DIY weekends when you get them organised.
I live in Northumberland some 180 miles from you, but that's not a problem.
My gearbox is not from a R.R car but has had the bump into 1st gear problem for some time, and now 2 secondhand boxes later I am in the same position and not feeling two grand to coin a phrase. I conversed with you as Bremble on Land Rover UK site last August post 118 onwards on the topic of ZF5HP teardown but the post was not followed up.
If it is easier for you to overhaul the box yourself its no problem, I can just bring it and drop it off, however I would love to do the DIY route with your guidance. My car is off the road until April 2017 so there is no rush from my end. If you could let me know how to proceed from here with and idea of the cost ( either route ) I would very much appreciate it.

Good luck with the new venture and please keep me updated.

Regards,
Arty

Hi Arty,

Thanks for your kind support. I'll review your old post but, as this relates to a Jaguar, it may be best if you contact me by PM rather than we discuss on here.

Phil
