Well done Phil! I think I may need your services some point ... Will you also have torque converters? And are you selling on N exchange basis?

Lord of gears, 'RRphil'
..I have always been amazed at your knowledge on this gearbox, and wish you the very best on your business.
Are you doing a complete service, in that, you might have say vehicle delivery to workshop, and subsequent Removal on site...
Or typically mail order units in, and out? Using customers own garage for local removal etc.

Or both?

Have you done yourself a YouTube video 'trailer'?

Thank you all for your kind messages, I really appreciate your support.

To answer johnboyairey’s question, my plan is just to work on the transmissions themselves and not on vehicles, so they arrive on a pallet and go out again on a pallet. How much this will restrict my business’s ‘appeal’ to people I’m not sure, but in my view the place needs to look and feel like an operating theatre and any automatic transmission shop that I’ve ever been in looked far from that - mainly because they were working on vehicles.

One daft idea I’ve been toying with is ‘fix-it-yourself’ weekends, for those who like to dabble. You arrive at my place on a Friday evening with your broken gearbox in the back of a spare/mate’s/wife’s car and you leave again on the Sunday with it fixed, having done the work yourself (under close supervision, of course!). There are several cheap Premier Inn/Novotel type hotels very nearby. I carry spares of all parts plus gasket/seal kits, fluid, filters, torque converters, etc. so, whatever the fault is, we’ll be able to fix it. Knowing that you’ve fixed your transmission with your own fair hands would not only give a huge amount of satisfaction (and knowledge that the job was done properly) but would also mean that you would never fear anything happening to it again as you would have an understanding of how it works and how to fix it.

Is that a daft idea?

Phil

Phil, I would love the dabble yourself weekend !!! I would certainly do it (bearing in mind I'm a mechanical engineer and like getting my hands "dirty" from time to time) if I had a faulty 5HP box.

So all thumbs up for this idea !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
