Suspension air bag maintenance.

While test fitting a set of wheels I picked up recently, after jacking my FF and removing the front wheel I noticed the state of the strut that the air bag folds down over, caked in grit, grime and tar holding it all on, though it might be a good idea to regularly remove these deposits to help to extend the life of the bags.

Anyone do this on a regular basis, or any other maintenance to help the bags last?

An occasional spray of silicone lubricant or something like that to help keep the rubber supple?

Both my front struts were changed be the previous owner, stickers dated 20/06/15 and 7/05/15 so hopefully should have some life left in them for another while but always good to extend this if possible.

common problem with the strut collecting hardened mud..
cam-tec craig cleaned my ones up on my SC when he replaced the oils and said that in some cases the jugged hard mud has scorn through the rubber on the air bag.. ... - .- -.

Yes, that was my thinking, all that caked on rough grit and grime can't be doing much for the bag apart from eventually wearing a hole in it...... Shocked

Always worth cleaning them off then rubbing a bit of gummipflege over them when in the fully off road position. Stops cracking and drying. Although that shouldn't be a prob as yours are so new. Mr. Green

I have always extended my FF's into off road height every few weeks and cleaned the mud and crud off, then washed them with a damp cloth. A couple of times a year I spray them with silicone spray to keep the rubber supple.

Every little helps as they say. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
