Towing Electrics

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but it seemed as good as any to me!!

can someone with a 4.4 TDV8 with towing electrics please let me know if they are the same as all the other model year electrics or are they different?

the reason I ask is I may be upgrading from my 3.6 to a 4.4 and I made a wiring loom up with a single 13 pin euro socket on it to suit my caravan. If things were the same I would remove the loom I made from my 3.6 to obviously save on money. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Hi Stu, sorry I can't help with your question as my electrics were dealer fitted but you'll love the 4.4 TDV8 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

The electrics are entirely different on the 4.4TDV8 from the early cars... Thumbs Up

I just replace the twin 7-pin loom on my 2010 with a single 13 pin kit. It's a lot shorter loom, about a foot all told. No ECU either which makes the kit cheaper. I think the part number you need is VPLMT0007 but best check with Dan to be sure. He'll give you a decent enough price too based on my experiences.

Sorry to resurrect this guys, eventually got round to buying a 4.4, only took me a couple of years.. Rolling Eyes

@ mzplcg... when you changed to the 13 pin kit was it just plug and play or did you need to do any coding?

I have the original twin LR 12s and 12n sockets but want to change to single 13 pin.

I presume because it is already coded/set up it will not matter unplugging and plugging in a different genuine kit.

Thanks for your help.. Thumbs Up Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

If twin sockets are already fitted would it not be simpler to have an adapter for the tow electrics? Then you have the advantage of using either.

PF. Jones do adapters.

I have 13 pin and do it the other way - an adapter to simplify towing a trailer with single 7 pin electrics. It is a very positive fit to the vehicle.

Don't know if you have looked at their site -

thanks for reply Weegie, but the only thing I ever tow is my caravan, in the event of needing to tow a trailer with single electrics, I already have a 13 to 7 pin adaptor.

Just like things neat and tidy.

I was going to rewire the two 7 pins into a 13 but can't be bothered to tell the truth. Getting lazy in my old age. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Coding should not be needed if you already have 12N and 12S. The coding is only to tell the car not to use rear park sensors and rear fog lights on the car when you have the caravan connected.

Everything just works without coding but the car's fog lights glare off the front of the van and the park sensors drive you nuts when reversing.

There are 2 exceptions I know of to the above statement.
1. If the car has adaptive dynamic suspension. There is a program to stiffen up the back (automatic when trailer connected) and you get the trailer assist program available to you which helps with reversing. You need that huge triangular sticker on the front of the caravan though, which is ugly as sin. Anyone who can reverse a caravan doesn't need it.
2. If the car has surround cameras you get a special view which allegedly lets you see down the side of the caravan. It is not even close to the view in a decent pair of towing mirrors, pretty pointless IMHO.

That's just the reply I was looking for. As you say I don't need help reversing, it's not exactly difficult! Mind you always gives me a chuckle when people do!!..I know I'm a very bad person for mocking people.. Rolling with laughter Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Just a quicky please gents. I have fitted the genuine 13 pin socket and connected the tin tent today for the first time. All the lights work as they should, the fridge works, the fog lights don't come on the FF, but the reversing sensors come on when R is selected. I can turn them off with button on the dash, but I thought that they weren't supposed to come on at all?

Any help/advice appreciated as usual! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Need coding into the car with either an Iid tool or at the dealer or someone with autologic etc. There is a different setting for 13 pin and 12n/s There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
