Now ive fixed the door lock, and got a pleasant surprise

After Saturdays fiasco I searched more threads and decided that this morning I would take out the lock cylinder and have a look to see if there was anything fouling it. I realised on peering into the hole that there is a shape on the end of the lock cylinder shaft that should be inserted into the corresponding hole in the latch mechanism. When I lined it up it went back in with no problem and the outside lock now works fine. To get at this properly I had also removed the door airbag which meant disconnecting the battery. Whilst it was disconnected I carried out a hard re-set and, to my surprise, when everything was reconnected and put back together the door central locking worked. I dont know whether it was the battery re-set, disconnecting/reconnecting the electrics or the general banging about the latch received that got it working (it will probably stop again tomorrow), but it means that the ff is currently problem free (now Ive gone and jinxed it). QUID FACIUM TIBI

Is not refetting the lock cylinder properly some sort of anti theft advice thats knocking about somewhere or just incompetence on someones behalf. Both of my FFs had been incorrectly fitted when I bought them and after an expensive near miss with a Corrado VR6 years ago I always check the key fits all the locks.

Unbeknown to me the Corrado had had a new ignition barrel at some point in its life and when I bought it only got 2 keys and 2 fobs of which one worked. You can guess what then happened to the fob. Luckily open heart sugery saved it and I learnt how to take a lock barrels to pieces and configure it to my key. Current

i have found that on most electrical/electronic faults or glitches on the FF , a battery disconnection to reset the ecus is a good first step... ... - .- -.

Is there any other benefits to a battery reset ? or will it cause any new problems ?

I knew I would jinx it - the drivers door central locking has stopped working again. I wonder if it is a bad connection/broken wire that I disturbed.... QUID FACIUM TIBI

I dont know if there are any down sides to a battery re-set (as long as you follow the correct procedure) but it has cured a number of faults for me over the months. QUID FACIUM TIBI
