Thinking of buying an 07 tdv8 - its very cheap!

Family friend has an 07 tdv8, vogue se spec with two tone leather. It has been parked up since it wouldn't start believed low fuel pressure? The mot has since expired and they no longer need it. They are wanting under £4000 for it to get it shifted off the drive.

It's black and has not been messed with or fitted with tacky add ons - I'm seriously tempted to buy it but am I just going to be buying a whole load of trouble. The fuel pressure issue may just be an uneducated guess by the owners!

Cheers

4.000 GBP? the price seems suspiciously low... having said that, if you put aside a few spare thousand pounds for repairs and fixes, you should be fine. The only real risk would be if a new engine is required, it would set you off a significant amount of money... Mileage? 2011 Vogue 4.4 Santorini black

The one thing these cars don't seem to like is being sat around for long periods. If it simply stopped working on their drive one morning it is * probably* something simple..but as said above..budget for potentially needing a chunk of cash for recommissioning. Maybe get an AA / RAC inspection? It may be a good 'un!

As an aside. Check carefully that the thermostat housing isn't leaking...look for coolant fluid around the base of the oil filter housing...it is a pain of a job I am discovering!😀

What is the symptoms of a thermostat housing leaking? Just curious.

Regarding the price of 4,000 - it sound like good value. With some careful checks you could be on to a winner!

as said its worth more in parts.

It really depends what is actually wrong with it, it could cost a pretty penny to get it up and running again, if its on reasonable milage then you are looking at about 10-11k ish all working, so there is a margin there.

Bear in mind that if its an engine problem or its lunched its turbos then its pretty much a write off, the engines are like rocking horse poo, there are some that claim to fit referred engines via eBay etc but not heard anything good about them yet. Parts for the motor itself are scarce.

If its a just a fuelling problem then its got to be worth a punt, especially if its a car which you know the history a little, but buy with eyes open and be aware it could be a lot to mend it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Again, Even if it is the engine and she's ingested either her turbos or EGRs you can get them fixed.

My RR did this and with the help of members on this forum and others I managed to rebuild her. That over 4,000 miles ago and all is well since. Touch Wood!!

At that money it would be worth it. Any advice which I can give I will!

Dropping coolant level...beginning to drop quicker...no leaks underneath as the engine evaporates it until it gets really bad...I was on the look out for it as it has a plastic manifold in the middle of the V like my MG ZTT 190...eventually they go...just shine a torch into the V...you will soon spot any orange coolant down there!

(Sometimes it is just the two short pipes from the housing down into the engine...but after all the faff of getting to it, for £65 you are better off doing it anyway..)
