United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
jaguar xjl

a friend of mine has a 14 plate jaguar xjl portfolio that I can have for a good price as he is going to a supercharged version ,
gorgeous car with every extra,
but then find out the bummer,
its not type approved to tow my tintent,,,,,,, Rolling Eyes
why have JLR shot them self in the foot ,
as these cars get within the average mans price range I'm sure a lot would have brought them as a luxury tug vehicle 2007 tdv8 se ,stornaway grey

cos on a sunny warm summers day when away in the tin tent it would be nice to go for a blast along the B roads with the top down......

or sit in the van while it hammers down and stare at the rain which is invariably the reality...... Rolling Eyes There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Corris Grey

Years ago I tried towing with a Jaguar XJ LWB (1998 model) and it was the worst tug I've ever driven. Wallowey and unstable which gave a ride so bouncy it made me feel sick. That was towing a 20 foot ski boat which isn't exactly heavy. Luxury cars they are, but definitely not towing machines.

Anything that's geared to cruise isn't going to make a good tow vehicle, and as stated anything that's made to go down the road in comfort isn't going to work well either... A Range Rover is both comfortable and good for towing as it's a compromise between the two, and LR have spent years developing the ride... the same can not be said for Jaguar and BMW, who's expertise is big fast comfy cars... there's a reason why they're not type approved for towbars, the transmission and chassis wouldn't take the strain Whistle

4x4's don't do economy because they are geared for power... high revs and low speed... bit like a lorry.. aren't they designed to haul large weights too? Rolling Eyes

My RRC is going to get a running gear trans plant at some stage.. to help with towing I'm going to gear it high revs / ratio, but I'm also thinking of adding an overdrive for better economy when not towing... If I fit this to my present arrangement I'll end up with 20 forward gears... a little more than your average Jag or Beamer.. If I do the main gearbox swap I'm planning then I'll end up with 24 forward gears Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
