Sdv8 mpg what should I be getting ?

Hi. Having now run the new to me sdv8 for 4 weeks I can report an average mpg of 24mpg. a but disappointed as thought I would see 30. Do I have an issue ? For comparison purposes type of mileage is commuting and we would get 24mpg out of the Various L322s we have owned all day long doing the same profile of mileage. Therefore had expected better from the sdv8. Any comparisons greatly received. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

I see better than that - I also went from an 07 TDV8 to a 13 SDV8 and there was a noticeable improvement

I'm usually high 20's but I'm no slouch and know I could do much better.

550 miles between fills is about normal and I have seen 650

My experience is that like most big diesels the mpg doesnt start getting reasonable until after about 10-15 miles of driving from cold so if your commute is less than that (or youre doing a lot of town driving) that might explain it.

My long term average is 30mpg however I don't do much town driving '14.5 SDV8 Nara Bronze for sale

I am a new owner (1k miles in) am quite an enthusiastic driver (lots of overtakes etc.) and get 26MPG which I think is great for what is a big heavy car.

I am a new owner (less that 300 miles - 1 day) and reading this thread with interest and a bit of dismay. Computer is showing 32 mpg but that includes a fair amount of motorway at 70 mph.

The car is more than amazing though and the whole family are enjoying it.

Came back from LR coventry to preston and with careful driving averaged 37.9mpg.

4.4 V8d - not too shabby consumption for a big old bus Thumbs Up

Nearly two years of ownership.
40 (just) on a long run at 72mph on the ACC.
Normally 28-30 around town. If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

Honest John, the web site, gives the average owner mpg at 30 for the 4.4 TDV8 (L322). I think owners were believing the on board computer tather than using a calculator. This 30 mpg figure was enough to persuade me to buy one. Real life is a bit different. On my typical tank, the car tells me I am getting 30 to the gallon. The truth is when I work out the mileage myself, I am really getting about 25.5 mpg. The car tell lies.
My true mpg:
Town traffic, low 20's
Motor way keeping below 80 mph, 33-35 mpg
Gentle long distance driving on "A" roads with my very elderly parents in the car, 38-40 mpg
Real life average over 10 months and 17,000 miles is 26.5 mpg
Interestingly excelerating gently to the desired cruising speed seems to be no more economical than excelrating brisckly to the same speed. I guess it's about getting into top gear and low revs sooner!

Can I jump in here with a 322 range question...

What find of tank range can I expect from a 2011 4.4 TDV8?

(Feel free to boot me over to the 322 section!) Cheers, Greg

By way of update to my original post I think I have fixed my mpg issue. At the latest service I asked them to replace all filters plus fit a new fuel filter. The fuel filter plus air filter should have been changed at the last service but you just never know if it was forgotten or faulty. Anyway. Post service I am now seeing 28 mpg for weekend mileage up from 24. And for the first time I am seeing 30 on long runs. Also now getting over 500 miles per tank so which ever way you look at it I have found an improvement of circa 20%. This is before I get a 4 wheel alignment done which the car obviously needs due to poor tyre wear suggesting I could even eak out a little more. Feeling happier. 2013 L405 AB 4.4SDV8 Luxor/Ivory, 2007 Vogue TDV8 Epson Green/Sand, 2008 Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue/Sand, 2003 Vogue 4.4 LPG Epsom Green/Sage, 1998 Vogue SE 4.6 LPG Epsom Green/Cream

All very interesting reading (considering that I'm mad enough to choose such a car to do > 35,000 miles pa in (!))

Not wanting to take any further gloss from it but in my experience the stated MPG is usually 10-15% optimistic compared to checking brim to brim readings Big Cry 2016 SDV8 Autobiography
