Just a quick note to you tow car drivers out there with bigger vans.

Have a dig into your policies. some UK insurers have size and length limits on the length of the van they will allow you to tow under their policy.

I learned this a few years back when i upsized to a twin axle, and Direct Line would not cover me towing with a van longer than 26', however they included the drawbar in this so was a bit skewed.

however it came to light again when looking into renewals, I had a really good quote off meerkats however the policy had a fairly short length, so had to stick with Swift cover!

Anyhow have a look and check you are covered for exactly what you are towing. Im not saying that the van will be covered as that is the purpose of caravan insurance, but that you will be covered 3rd party for any damage caused by the van and that the cars insurance will be in force and not voided by doing something outwith the terms and conditions.

Friendly word of caution  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A good point, and the main reason we only ever insure with the Caravan Club. Their policies are fit for purpose whereas plenty out there, as you mention, are simply designed to take your money and provide the insurer with a get-out in the event of a claim.

If you are towing overseas be aware that not many breakdown policies cover more than 7m total length. Pesky small print. Hence we book the CC own Red Pennant that does. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
