Hi Glen, mine has made a noise in the past, and periodically still does it.

Where is a good place to get a new one? Prices seem to vary enormously. |

Prices vary because of quality, O.E is going to cost more than Pattern parts. |

As above, quality determines price.

That will be for an aftermarket X5 pump, the LR price is for the pump and sender unit as a complete assembly and they are £400+ I did read a write up a long time ago, someone did the in tank pump swap over with an X5 unit on a TD6.. but I can't find But from what I can remember it's the same as the petrol pump (instructions in wiki) but you don't need the fire extinguisher!! Just had a thought that you might be able to get OEM from BMW... I don't know if BMW offer the pump by itself or as a complete unit.. might be worth an enquiry Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I will check later but I suspect it is the secondary pump, not the one in the tank. |

Checked the car again this evening. Took the secondary pump cover off and it was definitely not whining but it was making the odd clicking noise. It sounds more like turbo whine now but on Saturday the noise was really noticeable by the NS rear wheel. Perhaps I have a dodgy turbo and a knackered fuel pump |

Unless the turbo lets go and wrecks the engine! |

We have a really bad case of 'Roverphobia'.... If your that worried about it take it to an indy and get a second opinion... I would say take it to a stealer.. but they'll want their pound of flesh Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Possibly, I gather that it is a common ailment.

I only said that because you seem to be bothered by it and your considering throwing lots of money at the problem... I'd hate to think that you'd end up changing something expensive, like a turbo, only to have the noise persist. That is why I suggested an Indy.. The ffrr is a joy to drive when it's all going OK, and a real worry when something isn't quite right... If the car wasn't so refined you'd probably never hear things like whiny pumps... so you'd never worry..
