I believe the Rear E-diff was standard on S/C models from MY07 only and an option on all other trim and engine choices.

The lock symbol for the rear diff appears whether or not an ediff is fitted on the 07/08 models at least. ______________________________

I think that's normal, i.e. the lock symbol alternating between open and closed, when on terrain where you are just getting enough traction to maintain momentum but it's at the margin. Beyond that, when there is more wheelspin and the car is scrabbling for grip I recall another message, in yellow, in addition to the lock symbol. I don't recall feeling the lock going on/off either, though travelling on road and hitting a slippy stretch I do notice the drive being moved around to where traction is best. Mostly an option - other than as stated, I think the 4.2 S/C had them as standard.

The only way to know for sure is to look at the diff , if it has an actuator motor and a wiring harness

Looking forwards at the diff from low behind the vehicle, the ediff's bulging left casting is obvious when compared with an open diff's flat casting with the drive-shaft support protruding from the centre. |

if its an E-diff then it will have a cable/wire going to it..... ... - .- -.

The main cable is at the very top and really only visible when looking directly at the top of the diff from behind the top of the left wheel, although 2 wires connect to the oil temperature sensor in the lower left housing obscured by webbing when viewed from the rear. The shape of the left housing is the most accessible distinguishing feature. However selecting rock crawl and neutral or drive to see the colour change is even easier! |
