Well here goes let's see if anybody has a idea what's going on over the last week I have had the top set of brake light LEDs on even when the key is out I have plugged in the I car soft handset and there are a few faults come up but they are with the heating and ventilation side I have check the voltage on the battery and it is charging at 13.8v it had a new heavey duty battery last year

+1 agree with Stan. I had similar issue where 3 led's in each light remained on, traced it back to condensation around the LCM and harness. Quick dry and clean out with contact cleaner fixed it

Cheers for that going to check the lcm this weekend I checked the brake switch and that's fine just hope it is damp and it's not

I had this problem last night, brake lights came on as soon as car went to sleep (red light by "P" goes off). Disconnected battery to investigate in the morning.

Decided to remove the brake light "switch" and LCM module to check things over.

To get at things more easily the side panel against the centre console, the closing panel above the pedals, the aluminium tread finisher, the A post panel (where the bonnet release is), and the lower half of the dash end all came off.

No visual signs of anything wrong, a bit dusty on the brake pedal, and LCM dry as a bone. Tried testing the brake light switch, which seems to be a "hall effect" type sensor - a magnet at the end that touches the brake pedal at rest. Tested for resistance on pins but got nothing back, stuck the magnet to a knife then tested for millivolts and got some readings 2 to 5 millivolts from Pin 1 to 2-4. So something working there.

LCM looked fine, nothing looked any different from when I last had it out a few months ago, capacitors appeared in good shape, couldn't see any signs of tracking. You need six pairs of hands and flat levers to get the board out of its case so left it in! My board is a "540" so a later version than ones I have seen available on eBay.

Sprayed all connectors up with electrical contact cleaner, wiped clean the brake pedal and put it all back together, pushing the brake pedal "switch" into its holder as far as it would go (pedal pushes it back out a bit)

Reconnected battery, started up, did wheel to wheel to clear Christmas lights, then switched off, locked car and waited for red light to go out.

No brake lights

Time will tell.......... .

Not really any moving parts on the brake "switch" it is more like an ABS sensor but one that needs to be in contact with the metal of the brake pedal [EDIT](or like an ABS sensor there should be a small gap, but enough for the sensor to work)[/EDIT]. Whether the brake pedal had got stuck "off" it I don't know. No bright red glow outside so whatever I did has done something. No doubt need to drive it a bit. .

Sunday morning, 0745, awoken by the alarm going off. Ran down stairs, grab the keys, but alarm finished by then. Immediately alarm started off again so aimed at the car and pressed unlock. Nothing. Went outside pressed the unlock, nothing. Then could see that aside from alarm going off - hazards flashing, wipers were at 90 degrees, headlamp wipers also, stop lights on. Put key in drivers door and unlocked, key wouldn't turn in ignition. Alarm still going off!! Popped the bonnet. Ran back inside to the garage, grabbed 10 mm spanner, back outside, released earth terminal on battery. Silence.

Had a look:

1. Disconnected Alarm beeper (to keep neighbours happy!)
2. Checked Fuse 9 (Brake Lights) - this OK
3. Had a look in the ABS connector, clean as a whistle

Reconnected battery, lots of noise from the headlamp wipers resetting

1. Alarm going off (hazards flashing)
2. Stop lights on
3. Wipers running (switch was on intermittent so moved to off and that sorted that)
4. Key won't turn in the ignition
5. Security appears to be set (red flashing light on rear view mirror)
6. Remote won't lock/unlock the car
7. Battery voltage @ 12.5v

So seems I am back to either brake light switch or LCM as the problem? Meanwhile have a dead FFRR on Christmas Eve

Do I need to short some pins on the beeper connector so the car thinks the beeper is connected?
Would a battery terminal connectors touch help clear ECUs so I get the car back? .
