Well I had my gearbox and Torque Converter refurbed 3 1/2 years ago just under 30k miles covered, and I'm now getting the same torque converter symptoms. Anyone recommend a quality gearbox specialist in and around the Mansfield area. I don't want to send it back to the one I originally used if it's only going to last 3 1/2 years.

To be honest, I’d be wary about having a torque converter re-manufactured for a second time. Both the main impeller casing and the LUC reaction plate have to have the old welds turned off and then are re-welded back into position. New converters aren’t cheap, I’m afraid. The last brand new F38 TC that I sold was for £550 and it’s around a 5 hour job to get the transmission out and back in again to replace it (though no specialist transmission knowledge is needed for this, so you could use any competent mechanic who you trust).

It may be possible to pick up a second-hand converter off eBay, or wherever (usually for around £75-£125) and then have it re-manufactured (£240) which would work out slightly cheaper – assuming it hadn’t been re-manufacture before, of course. 11 litres of LT71141 fluid & a new Filtran filter would add a further £145. Overall you’re probably looking at £1000 to do the job properly which, I guess, is why people usually get the transmission overhauled too while it’s out of the vehicle.
