Sdd needs an internet connection. That's the proper up to date official version. There are offline older versions that may be able to do certain things but may do more damage to the car than good, being out of date. The sdd will look at the original as built file online against the car it's connected to and see if there is any updates that need to be applied.
As for adding extra modules that weren't on the car when it was built, you may need a tool like iid or faultmate msv or similar to activate them so they work and are recognised by the car.

You may need the newer version of sdd which is called pathfinder.

What are you trying to do?

There is a cunning mechanism to download the modules that are required, presumably designed for workshops without wifi coverage.

SDD determines what modules are present and if all modules are not present, prompts for a USB stick onto which it writes a small application and som config files. You then take that stick to a Windows PC with Internet access and run the application, which downloads the necessary files and writes them back to the memory stick. Return that to the machine running SDD and the necessary files will be copied across.

All quite straightforward really. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322
