Dan very kindly helped me out with some of the hose he used after I struggled to get the specs listed above.

To save any confusion for anyone else trying this what you need is 19mm internal diameter car heater hose. The 19mm end goes on the top part of the black plastic cyclone and the other end needs the hot water treatment to fit onto the metal ends on the rocker cover. The mistake I made was buying 22 mm internal diameter radiator hose which is very inflexible and will be far too big to fit over the cyclone. I got it to work but had to join the hose before the cyclone with copper pipe.

Save yourself the hassle buy 19 mm internal diameter car heater hose! Thumbs Up

Did you run your hand down the entire length of both top hoses to make sure thy haven't failed lower down at the back? If they are squishy they need replacing, did you check the third hose at the bottom of the cyclone?

They should be firmer than a rad hose.

Gents,
I did all three hoses last week... The 3rd one is an absolute git and mine came out in three pieces. (I think a previous owner had replaced the upper two because they were "okay" but still got changed out.

The only way I could get to the little hose was to move the car close to the bench and lie across the top of the engine with my feet on my bench. I then had to use a mirror to see the lower section of the 8mm hose.

Getting the new hose on needed a pair of surgeons clamps to grap and tweak the bottom section of the hose onto the top of the return pipe to the sump. I'd already fitted the upper end to the cyclone before putting it in place. I could not get a clamp on it but don't see it going anywhere so it will have to do.

When i had mine done the mech couldn't get a hose on the bottom either, although it was clamped to the cyclone.

Upon further investigation there is a 4th hose, I know you really don't want to hear that!

It's this one:

Mine was found when I had to have the whole cover replaced (after a mech broke it!) It wasn't attached to the cover near HC4 on the diag' but the hose was all blocked up. Also the tube on the cover (hc4) was bunged up too so the mech just capped it off rather than try and find the remains of this hose and replace it.

It drains any excess oil out of the Oil Separator Valve, but with it capped I've not noticed any problems, especially as I've done 20,000 miles with it hanging off and blocked up previously.

I had mine in last week getting the PCV hoses replaced, a new droplink, (so much for them being replaced at the last MOT before I bought the car!) and a new thermostat and housing including one of the sensors, (i think!).

The car now runs so much smoother, had a slight hesitation before hand if you needed to pull awa quick from a stand still. 2006 Mercedes CLS

I found the 4th hose when I was there but didn't realise it was connected to the PCV, it was in okay condition so I wasn't worried about it. I actually assumed it was a vacuum hose or something like that.

I did this job again on the new car. It's been suffering from high idle and not great mpg as well as the check engine light coming on with P1171 and P1174 codes.

One can buy pattern part hoses now for £7.22 each so I opted for these in the hopes they are oil resistant over the non oil resistant genuine hoses.

Once again they were completely shot, considering the vacuum system for the engine was completely open I'm surprised it was running so well. Even though it will have been sucking in moisture and general detritus for ages I hope everything will be OK.

Both hoses had significant holes at each end, the lower hose fell apart into three bits as I removed it.

Hi Dan,
Great thread, I know mine where replaced about 3 1/2 years ago when the LPG conversion was done but I should have a look at it again. Can you give me the name of the Motorfactors that you got the orginal hose from ? Or the company you got the replacement non OE parts.

Thanks...........Adam

Just to check on the parts list required form this tread

3 metres of 18mm internal diameter heater hose
1 metre of 8mm internal diameter heater hose.

There are some good videos on you tube on how to do this.

I can't find anyone doing any pattern replacements Is there a source for this?

Feel free to let us know if I have misunderstood especially the 8 mmm Internal diameter hose.

You definately don't need 3M of hose.

You can buy pattern parts, I think I got them from Britcar or such.

I'll check later and let you know.
