Has anyone done this and can reccomend a source where the batteries last a good while, or 5-6months as most people I've found that DIY with eBay and Amazon batteries only last a few weeks to a couple of months

A pig of a DIY job - I took my sons iphone 5 to a local second hand phone shop who did it while I waited

I'm fine to do it but worry about such shops as they may not be there in a few months time and also not sure how good the batteries are they use  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Who makes the genuine Apple one? It won't be Apple for sure. Perhaps google can provide some info, but it's likely to be Quallion or Samsung at a guess.

plenty of genuine apple batteries on Ebay for about £15. I have done a couple in both iPhone 5s and 6. Its an easy job and takes about 5 mins, and some even come with all the tools needed. get some sticky strips too off eBay.

the 6 is particularly easy.

undo the 2 screws either side of the charging connector
use a sucker and a spudger and gently lift the screen from the bottom
lift the screen back and you will see the battery.
carefully support the screen. you then need to pull on the sticky tabs which glue the battery in. these pull down towards the bottom of the battery.
then undo the connector plate which holds the battery connector in (about 2/3 of the way down the motherboard)
you can then lift out the battery.

reverse to fit new one.

it will take a little bit of charge going in to get it to fire up, so leave it on charge for an hour or 2 before you try and switch it on.

there is a great app/website for mending stuff called Ifixit. you download it it then has instructions on how to fix most things including battery swaps etc, or use the web:

to be honest once you have done it you won't mind doing it again. The batteries are so cheap and quick to swap that it doesn't matter if it lasts 6 months or 12 months. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

last one i got was a random click on eBay for an iPhone 5. I got my 6 done at a phone shop, they charged me £40...... after a day the battery started rattling around so I had it apart and they hadnt put and new sticky, on it hence how i know how to strip it down. Knowing that part i then got bored of the scratched silver case and swapped the whole internals into a matt black case......that is a PITA to do, but at least it means i know how to strip one into its components!!

Personaly i would take any of the purported genuine ones under £15 quids with UK shipping and tools. If its crap then try a different vendor next time. Just type in "genuine replacement battery iphone6"

this chap for example says its original has 17000 feedback at 99.8%
