Searched high and low for a new O seal for the bottom hose to thermostat housing. LR only sell the whole rigid connector, you won't be surprised to hear. Eventually got one from my local village garage which was "rounder" than the old one. In the process of fitting it I noticed that the blanking cap for the EGR removal kit was split (the one leading off the bottom hose, caused by the tight jubilee clip, the one on the left in the picture). Cut it back (it's very soft "rubber") and refitted - leak fixed. Re-fitted all the bits I had taken off (including the vacuum pump on the front of the engine which I had to remove to get to the lower screw holding the turbo air supply tube). Topped up with fresh water and run the engine. And for the first time in months the engine temp reached 12 o'clock! And no leaks. I am now wondering whether to put the viscous fan back on. Perhaps I will put it on for my next trip away and then remove it for local running to test.

Thanks Joe90. It's all back together now and seems OK. I have fitted the fan just for the time being but will remove it if everything is OK after my trip away. I did notice the A/C fans cutting in regularly as the car was warming up on the driveway. What happens in the summer - do they run constantly in slow traffic? Are they as tough as the viscous fan since they are going to be running much more? |

Difficult to tell what is going on in the summer as the temp gauge is "fixed" so to speak, but mine sits solid at 12 o'clock, even on a very hot day in traffic, you can't hear the fans as you are sitting inside an air con luxury box .

Thanks again Joe90. You are quite right that A/C luxury can mask anything - it's only the pedestrians who look surprised! |
