Should I buy a Defender as a future investment?

Mine is for sale due to a house purchase
Gutted to be selling it, but cars can be replaced. A mans castle must come first...

I absolutely love Defenders, but they would be no good for my everyday transport.
If they had come ready fitted with auto boxes and cruise control, two things I consider essential for towing my caravan, I'd have one in a flash.
I was just wondering if it was worth investing in one, in the off chance that maybe, like the Series LRs it may go up it value in future .
I was looking at it from a purely financial point .
Me savings don't seem to be doing a lot, so I was wondering if I could have a toy, and earn in the long term.

It, like anything else is a punt. They may go up in value, however it's down to who will buy them in the future. There are to many of them around for them to go up just based on rarity value, which is what generally drives the market, it is folks desire to own them.

Until the new deafener comes out then demand will remain strong, however it may be the case that when the new one arrives all the folks who are driving them now and spending silly money on them to make an "urban escape vehicle" will just forget about them and move onto the new one as that is the "new trendy thing"!

You are then into an intrinsic value situation. Who will buy them? Collectors, yes but only rarer run out models or perfect examples, Off roaders, yes but probably cheaper ones to mod, urban warriors, will have probably moved on to the next trend, farmers, maybe but they are generally as tight as they come So it's down to true deafener lovers, of which there are many, most of whom would like hem to remain affordable so they can continue to drive them.

Just my 5p worth and I'm normally never right.......  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I bought one for two reasons. One I've had a few and like them and secondly as an investment. I had mine valued by Landrover last week and its gone up by 6k in the two years I've owned it. I agree with NM Jones and if you buy one and really really look after it you wont lose out.

Autobox and cruise control can both be retrofitted to Td5 and newer

A mate of mine bought one of the very last off the line, a SWB TDI, and the dealer said if he brought it back in a year, no Matter what the mileage, he would give him £10k more than he paid for it!

There are too many of them around for the value to sustain £10k over book price in my opinion.

I would never buy one solely as an investment simply because when the hype dies down values will start to decline unless of course you mothball a brand new one and even then when do you sell it?

If you want to invest in metal buy a well looked after hot hatch like a 205 GTI as these are starting to sell for silly money. Pocket fun and an easy car to garage which can't be said for the Defender. 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze
