Insurance question

Does anyone *know* (as opposed to having a view) if a non fault accident would have any effect on my insurance?

I was in a dealership loan car when some dumb bint ran into the back of it whilst i was stationary at traffic lights - clearly not my fault, neither could I have avoided it.

Anyway, come time to renew the insurance and apparently the ins co are loading up my policy for this which seems more than a little underhanded. I don't know what damage was done (not a lot) nor how much it cost to repair. I didn't even complete any insurance forms FFS.

Does anyone else have knowledge of this? More to the point, since it was not my car, no insurance forms in my name and not my fault, do I even have to declare it?

TIA.

PS. Tried talking to them. Daft bloke of the end of the phone can't even get his head round 2 driver and 3 cars being lower risk than 3 drivers and 3 cars. Good though I am I have yet to master driving 2 cars at once. God help us Rolling Eyes

Someone reversed into me once and admitted liability. I was in the car and had a witness, but the point is I was not at fault and there was no question.

Admiral were the third parties insurance company and they plainly told me that because the accident was not my fault and I was not claiming, it did not need to be stated when renewing my policy.

If your insurers are trying it on then you can always contact the insurance ombudsman and make a complaint.

Hope this helps... 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

You do need to declare it as it will be registered on the national database if a claim was made. They should however not make any difference.

Ask them to speak to the underwriter and ask for them to disregard it as it was an non fault. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I understand that if you have an open claim when you see due to renew they load your policy until Non fault claim is complete and recorded. It happened to me one year.

If a claim isn't settled by renewal, 2 years of your NCB will not be applied. Not really a loading but an increase in cost, non the less.

The simple answer to the OP's question is, some companies load your premium, some don't. The same as some premiums are different depending on the company you go with, for a myriad of different reasons. Just do a Meerkat search for your fatty. I got premiums from £230 up to £6k when I was last looking for insurance. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

LOL, this is actually for my work hack, not the Fatty. 11 year old diesel Skoda and they want 200 quid against 150 last year. The car's worth less than that with 215k on it Laughing

It can make a difference

It depends on the company & the formula they use - it happened to me once & I changed insurers. They told me that as I had been in involved in an accident, I was statistically more likely to be involved in another..... the not at fault bit helped, but not entirely - sometimes you can be not to blame, but can't prove it, so end up 'at fault' so your likelihood of a future claim is higher.

Insurance contracts are subject to "ultimate good faith" so you will have to declare it. The insurer will decide what to do about your premium. This has happened to me twice and it did not seem to make much difference, but it is a nuisance in any event. Only Range Rovers since 1988
